Added 2024-06-14 05:01:02 +0000 UTC嶺南大學前社會科學院院長 Peter Baehr 教授分享的最後部份，雖然只有幾分鐘，但是他觸及自己的心底話，多少反映了國際左翼學者的共同點，就是不相信美國可以協助香港民主，也不認為民主化應該依靠美國。Peter Baehr 是加拿大人，對美國外交有自己的一套看法，他用這角度切入2019年香港「攬炒主義」的分析，我本人是有不同意見的，之後我們曾就這些觀點現場進行了討論，這正是正常環境下和而不同的展現。不過 Chatham House Rule，就不能公開了。

I think the CCP tactics had been “cook frog in warm water “. If there’s no resistance, use a few years to reach end stage. If there’s resistance, go to vigorous fast path. For end stage, yes it’s the same. Is it “quicker “, yes but might be just a few years. Yet this fast path had resulted in those safety boat like BNO Visa which wouldn’t happen in the slow path.

The fall of Hong Kong is the net result of the feverish yet unalterable monomania of controlling everything, coupled with its original sin of having a history as a British colony. In a highly centralized political structure where not only do people but any government bureaucrats and Party cadres who don't directly subordinate themselves to the regime’s authority fear oppression through the means of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI, aka 中紀委）or others, it's nearly impossible not to nurture a dictator whose burning ambitions would expand as his power becomes unchecked over time. He would seriously overestimate his capability to turn his nation into the sole regional hegemon, given that his brain is stuffed with a load of paranoid delusions and hallucinations that have effectively obstructed his ability to make rational assessments. There’s no vestige of hope that his ambitious dreams and perspectives can be shaped by constructive discussions.
