Remind me of "tulip mania" centuries ago.

Do we simply call Anna’s followers delusional, perhaps thinking she is some kind of class warfare icon trying to join the top 1%, another legacy of Occupy Wallstreet more than a decade onwards? After all, “The elite did far worse and go unpunished, what’s wrong with us doing the same?” This is a race to the bottom. Peter broke the window so Paul thinks he can break the door. This ethos is what caused the colossal collapse in the financial system in 2008 in the first place, and the aftermath that we are still dealing with today — the buyers not taking responsibility thinking the distributors should have done a more ethical job in the selling, the distributors think they are not guilty and that the banks should have done a better job with the lending, the banks think they are not at fault and the rating agencies should have done a better job of rating their paying clients, the rating agencies think they are not responsible and the accountants should have reported the finances in a fairer manner, the accountants think they are innocent and the regulators should have done a better job of policing the market, the regulators think the market knows best and the fed would backstop any dislocations… this is how you break a system. Fraud is less the issue, the bigger issue is the masses thinking fraud is OK because when they look around everyone seem to be endorsing this behaviour. The government by not punishing them in order to save the market is also seen as endorsing this behaviour. It is not the lack of truth that is troubling, it is the lack of trust in society that we created in times of wretched excess that we are now paying back. The genesis of crypto is all about the lack of trust in the government — somehow it “democratises money” and the fact that if anything goes wrong, and things do go wrong from crisis to crisis, it is not backed by the full faith of any government, or backed by anything at all, will be somehow trustworthy enough to fill the important role of a unit of exchange that underpins civilisation as we know it, simply because again, when you look around everyone seem to be doing it, therefore it must be OK. I watched a movie called “Dump Money”, which is about GameStop — it’s all about class warfare, not once did it mention how much the company should be worth, which again, interestingly, seems unimportant to anyone at all. Anna is indeed a wealthy heiress or not is unimportant to her followers, crypto is indeed safe or not is not important to the buyers (they know it is backed by thin air, it won’t change their mind), Trump use facts or not in his statements are irrelevant to his supporters… Humans have periods of mass delusion all the time, witch hunting, alchemy, crusades, fortune telling… When we look back in time we might find that we are all living in one right now, just that we don’t realise it yet.
