World Governments are Boring | Incoming

A united world government would bring together wildly different cultures and societies under a single banner, likely transforming humanity in the process. With such a wealth of human diversity, why are depictions of a World Government usually so bland?

Old Man's War is semi-exception to this. Earth remains divided into many countries and occasionally they still go to war with each other. Humanity's colonies outside the Sol System are part of a single state, the Colonial Union. The Union has diplomatic relations with Earth but doesn't share its advanced technology, instead recruiting soldiers for first world countries and colonists from third world countries. Officially Earth's isolation is to "protect" it after it was attacked by an alien race in the past (of course that could just be Union propaganda and they were behind the attack all along). In the first book even humanity's allies can only go to a space station in Earth orbit run by the Union, they can't set foot on the planet's surface.

This is exactly what I was going to post. I'm not disagreeing with your premise, it could be more interesting if Earth was still divided by nations but it all depends on the narrative. The UNSC is a plot device for a video game, you want to keep it simple.

Doesn't that mean Greater Terrian Union and the other ideas you guys had like the United Federation of Nations a world gov't? What made them different that they aren't boring? And I am not criticizing, I am just curious from watching this video what solutions did you come up with to fix this problem for yours.
