Should the Greater Terran Union reform it's governing ethics? | Stellaris Invicta

The integration and acceptance of the Wessari has challenged some of the oldest values of the Greater Terran Union, entire generations have enjoyed lives free from the fear, struggle and hatred that the Union was founded upon. While the recent wars against the Compact have proven that humanity must be ready to defend itself, the overarching xenophobia espoused by Union propaganda has grown less effective. The Wessari have proven that not all alien races are inherently hostile while the oppression of our former allies in the United Clans of Skiron has been widely protested.  Perhaps most importantly, if the Greater Terran Union is to ever cross the vast expanse of the galaxy and bring war to the Tyrum, it may be forced to make common cause with other alien empires. The Marshalls have begun to question if the GTU’s xenophobic policies are still required.

Should the GTU shift its governing ethics away from xenophobia?

"I must side with the honorable Marshall Bouchie in this great debate and oppose the honorable Marshall Fergus. We all know the our position in the universe. We all know the dangers xenos can present. But we know good allies, the Wassari, whom have fought by our side. We know of the primitive species whom now we uplift and eagerly await their debut on the galactic stage. We know the protectorates whom have found freedom from the Algan republic. And we know the Skyron, whom have betrayed our trust by using us as a sword for their own personal ends. We know the Khan hordes whom exhausted themselves conquering our rivals to the south. Lastly there is the Tyrum, the great enemy on the other side of the galaxy, awaiting our retribution. WE KNOW WHAT MAKES AN ALLY AND AN ENEMY! And if we follow the example of Marshall Fergus by quivering in fear of the unknown, we will only show the universe that we are still children, uncertain and lacking confidence in our own better judgement! So I say again. We know what makes an enemy. We know what makes an ally. Lets prove to the universe we have the confidence and wisdom to know which is which, and act accordingly." -Marshall Dallas Reinhart, Canadian Commissariat, Earth, Greater Terran Union

The GTU principle is based on pragmatism. Why not take advantage of a potential resource against a common enemy? The Wassari might have a unique perspective on the GTU's military doctrine.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the parliament, I beseech you to hear my words. We are gathered here today to discuss our governments justified distrust of the vile xeno. There are those among us, certain naive individuals, who believe that the xeno is anything less than a verminous plague upon the galaxy, worthy of only extermination and subjugation. I ask you this! Have we forgotten Tyrum? The tragedy of the Algans? The countless human lives lost every day in the void of space? Lost in fighting on dozens of worlds? Are we to forget their sacrifice, to let them and what they fought for wilt away in favour of some wide eyed idealists fanciful interpretation of the universe? The universe has never once shown us an ounce of mercy. Never once has it given us a second chance, a moment to breathe. Every achievement of our great nation has been clawed with blood, fire and steel from the unwilling clutches of a cruel and unforgiving galaxy. If we expose our backs to these xenos, let me assure you that we will soon enough find another dagger in our backs! I then ask you this! Will we turn our backs? WILL WE?!" -MP Fergus

Foolish hatred of man's own skin divided us and saw the worst acts of barbarity be conducted. Though the xeno are not human they are children of this galaxy and the universe just as we are. The Greater Terran Union should seek to enlighten all those it can. For if we can not learn to educate others, if we can not focus our hatred, if we can not admit that our blatant hatred for all Xeno cripples us then we are doomed. Hypocrisy comes to mind when we protest the oppression of our old allies, now enduring the unendurable. We must join hands with other children of the galaxy or be swallowed by its numbers and devices alone. The Wessari and other Xeno refugees are proof that our nations creed of unity crosses race. Let us take this Union further and at last secure the Union for All.

Xenophobic policies are outdated, but ought not be tossed out completely. The process of integrating alien species in to a functioning human society is an ambitious project, and will take time. As time passes, and as new species are taken under the Union's wing, integration policies can be improved upon, and expanded. All good things take time. I advise taking the time to ensure that all considerations are dealt with and all necessities are met. Long live our glorious Union!

As far as I have seen, the Xenos we have subjugated have content and productive members of the Union - there are Wasari who have even fought and died for it. We should be ever vigilant in the face of the past, but can no longer afford to shun those who mean us no ill will. Who knows what our alien citizens truly have to offer?

we should get rid of xenophobia and become fanatic militarist, don't go for materialist in the lore this would mean the GTU supression of all remainig human and xenos religion, and in the game it would mean that the GTU cannot exploit psionic technology, the GTU is ready to use any means to claim victory on the battlefield, they already use godzilla like creatures it would natural that they would be ready to deploy Psionic Army on the field and maybe if possible a psionic avatar

I'm not saying fully trust the xenos. by all means treat them as suspicions but the wasary have been propagandized enough to fully believe and the Terran Union. If we continue to hold aliens out the more and more enemies we have if we can make some alliances with them, be it short term, we could divide and conquer.

Hatred of the alien without merit is fear, and fear is for the weak. We have outgrown such weakness, let the Tyrum fear us. If the alien stands against us, then let him feel our wrath, but if he stands with us, then as the warriors of our ancient past once professed, "For whomever sheds his blood with me shall be my brother."

Matthew Kwaske

You can never stop progress, you might delay it but xenophobia is the concept of the old. Humanity and Wessari alike would prosper among the stars together! For our Union!
