The Great Galactic War: How Should the National Council Respond?

The A.I. rebellion has been destroyed, but clearly that was only the first phase of a grand campaign against the Greater Terran Union. 9 separate nations have joined arms together, and while the might of the GTU remains largely intact, victory is not certain. Our resources and capital have been depleted, our fleets are under strength and much of the industrial heartland remains in ruin.

Against such odds, the Joint Chiefs have proposed two competing plans.

Plan Sundial: We will defend our borders, whatever the cost may be, until a white peace can be negotiated. Any lost territory will be reclaimed, but no major offensives will be mounted.

Vasilevsky Strategic Offensive Operation: We will rebuild our strength and strike at the heart of the enemies arrayed against us through our mastery of the L-Gates. We will cripple their ability to continue the war and vassalizing them if possible.

The National Council has been summoned. How do you vote?

So, Marc, what was the point of the Patreon poll where we voted to reclaim territory and get a white peace instead of launching major offensives since you decided to completely disregard it on stream 29 and launch a major offensive on the opposite side of the galaxy as soon as the white peace was available?

Solus Ignis

Your plan is sound in theory I'll give you that, I hope it is Possible.

exhausted whare? We are the only enemy.

DimirtisTaramas

The "Vasilevsky Strategic Offensive Operation" Would have been way cooler But One of the fundamental rules of warfare is that you don't go to war without resources. Although it put's as at a disadvantage It is the best of tow bad choices.

DimirtisTaramas

Bunker down...for now. We can strike once the enemy has exhausted themselves.

CrimsonFreak

I propose war plan vulture, we defend our borders and reinforce the L cluster all while amassing fleets in the cluster and stage strikes on our enemies, we have the means of production and the resources, all who go against the might of our glorious union shall be crushed to dust

But what message will that send to our people? That we can't fix our economy and our only hope to try is annex even more territory and this more issues? Without jobs, housing, amenities our people will revolt and independence movements will flare up or worse, civil war. If we're fighting a gross amount of hostile governments and our brothers, that will be the end of us.

Without an economy our fleets are rendered useless. Men go A.W.O.L. and with undermanned ships each battle would be a lost.

If we mount a grand scale offensive then we open the door to our enemies for them to sack our homes. If we defense our border systems will be able to use our military station and fleets in the system to destroy invading fleets. If we push through, yes we might take key locations and maybe a world or two... but by doing that our foes might hunt down our wounded fleets and push in and crush our strongholds. Or they will just reclaim after our fleets. The clear decision is to defend and after they're fleets try for peace. If they refuse white peace, then and only then make small offensive moves. Thank you fellow estimate members of the state.

we can’t hope to run any offensive without a stable economy to back it up. We should hold off on any offensive operations for now. Let the enemy come to us so we may destroy their ships and warfleets when they try and breach our defenses. When our economy is stabalizes We can launch a new offensive. Though let it not be said war is not profitable.

"We have tried peace. It failed. We have tried diplomacy. It failed. We have tried total annihilation. It failed. Subjugation! Vassalization! Alliances! All failed! At what point do we look outward and ask the galaxy, "What the hell do you want from us?!". It is no secret I am a member of the faction that favors peaceful co-existence with our neighbors. A shame very few of our neighbors desire this as well. Does this mean all efforts are hopeless and we should give up? NEVER! We've faced annihilation directly, where was the uncaring universe then? No... the only fairness, the only justice, the only peace we can hope in an indifferent universe is that which we earn ourselves. The only threats that are forever silenced are the ones we defeat and force to terms. And then, only after they've worked under our governance have they learned the true value of co-operation. For the sake of universal peace, for future co-operation with our neighbors, we must take the offensive as soon as possible, collapse their governments, and render them incapable of threatening our borders ever again, so that saner voices may prevail. We support the Vasilevsky Strategic Offensive Operation."

Defend. Heal our wounds and build our strength. The return in a manner the Galaxy has never seen before.

SilverLotus

We must make a statement to these xenos!

Fergus

Go on the defensive I think, but strike back with the Sword of Terra if necessary. The GTU can always use the peacetime to prepare more adequately to go on the offensive in future.
