Liberate the Vrul Salvation League? | Stellaris Invicta 2

Since contact was established with the Vrul Salvation League, they have been overtly hostile and threatening to Confederate diplomats. Highly autocratic and repressive, messages – pleas for help, have routinely been intercepted from Vrul dissidents, forced to work in vast labor camps within their space. Their careless brutality reached such an extent that their mining efforts rendered their home planet unstable. When the planet eventually imploded, only the ruling caste survived, an upper elite that now presides again over a growing population of forced labourers.

The careless genocide conducted against their own people by the Salvation League cannot be allowed to continue. The Chamber of Representatives formally asks the Senate to establish a state of war with the Vrul. The aims of this conflict being not conquest, but the liberation of the Vrul and the arrest of their leadership.

So instead we should stand by while they carry out their religiously driven purge against others?

Schietwetter

Then we are all agreed. The Vrul elite must be taught a strong lesson for their corruption. they cannot be allowed to murder and oppress they're own citizens. Let their downfall be a message to all the galaxy that the Antares Confederacy will not suffer tyrants on it's own doorstep. Sic Semper Tyrannis!

The Ghost of Avalon

It seems our course has already been decided, but I beg you, hear this concerned citizen's final plea. There is nothing righteous about declaring war on the Vrul, it will only bring needless bloodshed. The first of two recurring arguments for invading the Vrul is that we have a moral duty to "liberate" the Vrul. Do we have a duty to sacrifice our sons and daughters for interests of another species? It is worth contemplating that when politicians speak of moral duties they are always "duties" that they themselves do not personally undertake, or if they do, they use their influence to reduce their own burdens and risks. We would be demanding that the men and women serving in our military fight not for the protection of Antares which they signed up for and swore an oath to do, but die for aliens that might not even want a change in government. Furthermore, the means of achieving victory will contradict the goal of the war, as the demands, constraints, and destruction of war would magnify the suffering of the already devastated Vrul civilian population. The second argument is that if we do not attack first, the Vrul will one day attack us, and that they will have the advantage if we wait, but in truth we would have a greater advantage if we fought in the future rather than now. Our Confederation has many bountiful, growing worlds, while the Vrul have a mere two struggling colonies. Our science and resource production will increase at a much faster rate than the Vrul Salvation League, so it can be concluded that we will not only be stronger than the Vrul in the future, but the longer we wait the greater the power gap will grow. If we can beat the Vrul now, then we could beat them if they declare war on us any time in the future, so there is no need to take the offensive.

This rhetoric, like the united states of old earth. And as them so will we bear the fruits of our labor... a sad day for Antares

Kordeus the DM

I can not tolerate not only a hostile government but also a genocidal regime that is 2 system jumps from Antares. The war will be decided on who ready and does a blitzkrieg attack into their home system first. We must do a quick and decisive war to end this regime once and for all. May god bring mercy to us all and I hope that as a senator, this is the only war declaration I will have to support.

Rarely is war ever the right answer. It would be the ideal outcome that overtime, through diplomatic pressure and the internal workings of the VSL, that its own people should liberate themselves. However, perhaps it is not proper to refer to them as "its own people". They are subjects to the VSL. Not citizens, slaves.. So long as we permit, upon victory, the populace chained by the VSL self-determination, and grant them the same respect, non-intervention, and distance that we expect for ourselves, then this war may remain a just one, and a just war is better than an unjust peace, though much more than both is a just peace. As such, it is with some trepidation - but no hesitation - that I vote for war, but we must all take heed: war may begin when we will, but it does not end when we please.

Angonce-Nui

senator Potemkin from Odesa autonomous region supports the declaration of war. Because VSL is a clear and present Danger to the Confederacy and must be dealt with now. We must show the galaxy that the Confederacy stands for freedom from oppression.(translated from Ukrainian to the Antares Confederacy assemble)

Joe Poloway

We cannot overlook the suffering of these people nor the hostile actions of their oppressive regime. War is inevitable and no matter how we put it off, it will happen. I see no choice but to vote yes. For the security of our borders and for the freedom to the oppressed, we must fight.

Dark Forge

It will only be a matter of time before the Vrul Salvation League starts looking to our territories for expansion and subsequent exploitation. Regardless on whether or not we should interfere with their domestic situation, a preemptive strike would be the best option in order to deal with them.

GhostReaper

The people of Embasora know all too well the necessity of confronting tyranny in the most ardent and forceful terms possible, as we did during the uprising against our former provisional government. Indeed, one would be hard pressed to find a more abhorrent and repulsive government than the genocidal madmen that now hold the people of Vrul under their boot.

Antares should not waste precious, scarce resources desperately needed to improve the lot of the people of Antares, just for an Admiralty jaunt against the crippled Vrul
