Exercise 1 - Color Use - Mix

Hi lovely people. How did you enjoyed our tutorials so far? Share your practice or works with us by mentioning @craftworldstudio and using #craftworldpatrons . We have seen some of the works under this tag and it is lovely following.

Here comes the Exercise no.1
We are starting with Color Mix. As it is something very important experiencing when we are practicing color use and learning about our colors and paints.

This exercise is downloadable, so you can print it and try it directly on exercise sheet. But it is not necessary - you can match this tones on any paper and check the resemblance with this picture.

There is video explanation of this exercise of course, but we will share it later this month, giving you all enough time to check it and try it out yourself, creating your formula on getting those tones with primary colors + white.

For this exercise we have been using Scale Artist Smooth Paints. You are of course free to use any brand. And there is a table on this exercise sheet where you can check if your paints match the tones used. If you want to acquire Artist Smooth Paints, we suggest you to wait a bit as we should be getting some benefits in cooperation with Scale 75 (but being in this world situation everyone is busy and all of this plans and announcements takes some time) .

We hope you will enjoy this exercise. Tell us your experience in comments. :)

Ps. This exercise is for patrons only, so if you want to share your results publicly be sure to share it as explained on the picture that came with exercise. We want to keep these exercises exclusive for you, and this is the only reason for the rule of sharing. Thank you.
Yours,
Aleksandra & Marko

What an excellent tutorial. I was so surprised how pleasantly difficult I found getting the exact colour. It made me realise how many colour variations you can do with just 3 paints. Amazing. Thank you so much

Mike Payne

Is there some list of most used colours? I am considering set of kimera https://www.pegasoworld.com/product/kimera-kolors-acrylic-set/ or some colours from scale75 artist range. I want to be able to follow your exercises as well as tutorials. Regards!

Povilas Šimonis

Hi, we were collaborating with scale 75 few times in past. When there is new benefit we can offer from them, we will announce it. :)

Craftworld Studio

Hello, I am curious to know if you managed to collaborate with scale75? I would like but set of scale artist colors

Povilas Šimonis

Haha, oh that's right 😅 Yes, that's great, it is not necessary to be printed. You can just mix paints on some paper and compare the tones on iPad screen. You can make more mixes to try it out, see where it leads, so later when we share result , you can compare if it was the same approach :)

Craftworld Studio

Haha no I meant I don’t have ink for my printer! But maybe I can just put my IPad next to my palette and try it. I will use Vallejo colours for this exercise I think.

Jelan Star

Hey Jelan, what paints do you use? For this exercise it is enough to use only primaries. Something like primary blue (cyan), red and yellow + white :)

Craftworld Studio

Would love to try, but I ran out of color ink :D always forget to buy some because I use it so seldom. Now is a good moment to get some ;)

Jelan Star

It depends on the paper you will be working on. I didn't prime it for this exercise. But I used paper we are using for our class exercises it is 250gr mat paper :)

Craftworld Studio

Now this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for! Thanks so much! Do you normally prime a piece of paper first??

Neil Blake

We are both glad hearing that. Enjoy. Looking forward to see results. :)

Craftworld Studio

Hi there! That's exactly what i need, a great exercise, thank you very much!

slo motion

We are happy knowing that. There will be more exercises in next month's so we are glad starting with color mix :) Thank you.

Craftworld Studio

Thank you very much for this! As a beginner, this would greatly help me out.
