"Charlotte" - Exclusive work in Progress - Aleksandra, Mrs.Craftworld

Hi lovely Patrons, how do you like tutorials so far!? What are you painting this weekend?
We asked you if you would like to see more of work in progress updates from us, so..

Here is my work in progress on display figure from Limbo Miniatures - Charlotte, that I am working on as a commission for private collection.

I under-painted it in simple painting scheme, using my favorite blue tone. - That I made by mixing a bit of magenta in red shade blue (Kimera paints), not enough to change blue to purple, but enough to give a bit of tint and even colder value to blue. And for the light I went with very pastel cream tone. I mixed a bit of ochre with magenta and add a lot of white.
Next day I spent few quality hours sketching and refining some details.

For example I started adding colors (scale 75 artist range) and defining the look of this piece. To be sure where I want to go next, I work more on some parts and some are in sketching phase meaning I will either complete it later or change something in progress. And some parts are yet untouched meaning I am still thinking about later progress. I have the idea, but I will let color tones and brushstrokes lead me there slowly or having them bring me somewhere else based on what inspiration this model will bring me to. :)

It is all about the art, having idea and inspiration is very important. But, I always like having the project and passion lead me along the way. Those are ones of my favorite's. Projects where you are not concerned about what should be done, but what your heart tells you to do. :)

Hope it is fun for you all to see and read something like this as well. All the best wishes from us,
Aleksandra & Marko

Thank you very much Nathaniel. That is so lovely hearing. And yes, I love your retrospective of this piece, my intention at the start was to make everything translucent and very creamy, soft, angelic and holy but at start of painting I decided to give a hint of, close to what you said - I would say something like both seductive and patronising and I think most importantly "intimidating" in some way. Like there is hint of a warning in her stance and colour scheme. She offers piece and mercy but she will defend her beliefs and what's right (at least by her beliefs). :)

Love this piece so far - it is a great painting approach to the wonderful sculpt/pose. Especially the contrast of the red details with the hints of translucent cream fabric. Strong, but leading with either (depending on how you read it) with seductive or a kind of patronizing (no pun intended) tease. Just like her weapon behind her back. Thanks for sharing

Thank you Neil. First inspiration and idea. I want this piece to have nice pastel ambience and I imagined it in this tones. It is also similar to another Limbo figure I did, Sephiria so it have a bit of narrative there as well. :)

This is such an awesome insight into your process! What normally guides your underpainting colour choice?
