Hello Michael, Thank you. Of course I need to give ideas trough color theories and other explanations to bring you closer to the grasp of using colors for underpainting. And to make color choices in general. When it comes to us chosing the colors,  it depends of how Marko or I feel painting certain project. It can be Ambiance. Which we explained in some od the lessons. For example, before you paint character or some element. Try to place it in narrative by giving it a background story. This background story in underpainting. Placing your mini inside the cave will give you idea for underpainting. But, it will give you different idea than it will come to me or someone else. And that is the beauty of artistic freedom and interpretation. While I can imagine cave ambiance in deep emerald or purple, someone will see it as blue, red or even in some other color. Regarding experience, interests, esthetics..etc. :) so use of color theory, narrative,  emotion, anything that is  pushing you tell a story with your piece is how we will use underpainting.

Howdy. As always I love your work. One question that I have been pondering is how do you pick the colors you use to underpaint? I understand warm and cool. colors, I thought maybe choose complimentary colors but that's not it. Are you arbitrarily choosing based on the way you want the model to turn out? I get the using darker colors for shaded areas so I have a grasp of what needs to be accomplished just no idea how your choosing the colors. Thank you for everything I am happy to be learning your techniques.
