Freehand Base Video Tutorial - Queen Guinevere Series

Dear Craftworlidans,

We both hope you will enjoy this lesson. My idea was to bring you one of the nice and easy ways of creating a freehand ornament on the base. Drawing and Painting Ornament on the base. In this video I will lead you through few steps of what I like to call back and forth progress. :)

- First thing is PLANNING. You want to plan where you draw the nicest ornaments or shapes on the base so they are visible and attractive on the scene.

- Second stage is OUTLINING. I do this outlining as a Under Sketch, so I can keep the ornament visible under Overlapping Layers of Color.

- Third Step is GLAZING. I am creating Overlapping Layers of Floor Color. I don't mind the ambiance at this step. I am focusing on creating the original color of the tiles.

- Fourth stage is PAINTING the colors of the ornaments. I am adding ornament original colors in thin layers still not affected by the ambience.

- Fifth Stage is HIGHLIGHTING. I am highlighting the shapes of the base to bring volume and details better explained.

- Sixth Stage is GLAZING again. The same as the third stage, but this time I am using thinner glazes and I am painting Overlapping Layers of Ambiance.

- And stage Seven are touch ups of HIGHLIGHTING. Next to tones of the base I am adding the tones of ambiance in highlights and continue with complete definition of the shapes and ornaments.

I recommend trying this out, next to the cool effect it is very soothing. I left speed up sequences of Glaze Paint Layers drying for you to see in the video process. Take your time, if you are not confident with brush control yet, try some simple shapes. Learning through the experience is the best way of learning.
