Changes to the Credits

Here is a bunch of super-boring housekeeping stuff about having your name in the credits of videos...

I notice other creators on Patreon are doing things like giving bigger backers more attention in the credits. This is a very, very minor thing, but I also kinda like it. When I watch someone else's videos, I often like to read through the backers to see if there are any names I recognize. I've noticed it's cool when the list has variations in it in terms of font / size / color.

In my videos, my credits are generated by a program I wrote in the Unity game engine. I take the spreadsheet of people provided by Patreon, and my program renders a credit sequence that I can capture. I'm thinking of having the program list the bigger backers (like, a $10 level or something) first, in a bigger font. This is a trivial programming change and I figure it might look cool.

Here's the thing:

A few years ago I added the $2 reward tier to have your name in the credits. At the time, the Patreon interface was confusing enough that people couldn't figure out what they needed to do. Like, they were giving $5, but they couldn't figure out how to get the new $2 reward without LOWERING their pledge to $2. That's obviously terrible and I don't want to have that happen again.

So here's my plan:

I'll add a new tier to let people know the option is available, but you WON'T need to mess around to make it happen. If you give at the larger level, my program will automatically recognize  that and render your name accordingly. You don't need to mess with your pledge or anything or specifically request a different reward. It should all be seamless.

(I hope.)

I'm always terrified to mess with this stuff because I don't want to annoy or confuse the people supporting me.

I honestly don't understand what the Patreon website is doing that makes it so heavy and unresponsive, not to mention its utter refusal to honor the sanctity of Ctrl+Click.

So long as it remains opt-in as usual, I have no interest in appearing in the credits. :)

For as much money as sites like Patreon and Kickstarter are leeching, I've been consistently staggered over the last decade how often they manage to have bafflingly poor UI or miss having simple features.
