But Blaze stopped the young Dragon Lord and instructed her to instead hide nearby while she told him the news herself. She promised her daughter it'd be worth it.
Torch knew something was up when he saw his wife sitting in the middle of the cavern, alone, with her claws courteously folded while she looked at him. He immediately assumed she set up a prank, as she often does. After some silent banter Blaze decided to spill the beans. She pointed at herself, then clasped her claws in front of her belly.
Torch did not immediately respond. Finally, he signed: "are you serious?"
When Blaze confirmed that she was indeed expecting and told her husband how many weeks along she was, Torch grabbed his horns in elation. It was a novel sight to Ember, who had never seen her father so happy. She couldn't help but grin at how goofy he looked. But the best was yet to come.
"How many?" Torch signed. The answer sent the old drake into an exuberant fit of joy. He occasionally interrupted his wild celebration to ask his wife if she was telling him the truth, "really? Eight? Really?"
Blaze was right, Ember thought, this was totally worth it!
