Hardware Upgrade Plans

I've finally settled on the parts I want to save up for upgrading my PC. The most limiting factor for my build is my processor. I'm currently running an AMD FX-8350. It's aged somewhat poorly and doesn't fit my needs very well. It doesn't run Blender very well, so it is somewhat challenging to do animation when the preview window's framerate for my animation doesn't play at full speed. Not a terrible CPU for general use for most, just not for me.

Here are the new parts I've decided to save up for:

All of these parts are necessary to make the full conversion to the Intel i7 7700K I plan on getting. Unfortunately it's going to be quite expensive, since I needs to not only get the CPU, but I need a new motherboard that the CPU can fit in, a new set of DDR4 RAM that I need since the RAM I have now is DDR3, and a cooler that will fit on this new motherboard. But this all is starting to feel more and more necessary as time goes on. It's still a bit sad that my Intel based laptop can run Blender's preview window better than my Desktop PC. And these parts should help drastically.

The money I've gotten from you guys so far has helped upgrade certain other parts of my PC. I got a new Mouse for one. The old one I had was starting to break and was unreliable. The mouse I got was a Logitech G502 Gaming mouse. I do a lot of gaming as well, so I went for someting that can do that well. But it also works well for Blender since it's much more reliable. I've also gotten more DDR3 RAM since 8GB I had before started to feel to limiting. In hindsight I should've waited to get the upgrade since I can't use the DDR3 RAM with the new motherboard, but it's something that I needed.

So the saving starts now. I've got about $200 saved up right now and will continue to save up money through you guys donating to me here on Patreon of directly through Paypal. These new parts will fluctuate in price, but I don't think it'll ever go over $600. Essentially I'm one third of the way there, so at the rate we're going at it would take no less than 9 months to save up for it, but that's ONLY IF I use the patron money save up for these parts, which isn't likely because a few times have come up already where I had to use the patron money for living essentials, which take higher priority. So yeah, it's going to take a while. Maybe these parts will go down in price in the coming months, who knows?

But that's the plan, as long as it's going to take at this rate. But I wouldn't even be able to do this at all if you guys weren't here. I've already been able to halve my render times by getting another GPU to render on and has helped me produce content more efficiently, and I can't thank you guys enough for that alone.

I did consider Ryzen, but I desire better single core performance since I do a lot of gaming on my machine to. And I need a processor that won't bottleneck my games below 144 fps, since I have a 144hz monitor to take advantage of too. And the performance on the 7700k is already miles better than what I got now for both Blender and games anyway, and I don't think I need any more than that at this time.

Have you considered a Ryzen system for Blender? Most tests seem to peg it as much faster than a 7th gen Intel for that particular workload. 7700k is (the former now that 8700k is out) king when it comes to single core gaming performance, but it doesn't seem that that's your goal here?
