2017-10-26 16:08:41 +0000 UTCA little background on Fred Johnson (Chad Coleman / Tyreese) for you guys - not really a spoiler, just background info that they hinted at here and will eventually mention more about. Fred was a UN Marine Colonel back in the day. He was credited/blamed (depending on who you are) for putting down the rebellion / leading the massacre at Anderson Station 11 years earlier (as shown in the flashback), which is what earned him the title "The Butcher of Anderson Station." Sometime after that event, he became disgusted with the Earth military and decided he was on the wrong side. So he ended up running Tycho Station in the Belt, and is now considered the leader of the OPA faction on Tycho. As to his motivations and all that, that's for you to figure out. But that's the backstory, and why people don't trust him much. Hope that helps make sense of it all.
