For reference, the Epstein Drive is the main engine for every single major ship in the entire setting; some ships still use the original fusion torch design (that Epstein modified), but they are an order of magnitude less efficient, and at the time of Epstein, going from Earth to Mars with any real cargo was a major effort. With the changes in fuel required, it was now much closer to a modern cargo ship crossing the atlantic; it takes time, but you can afford to move truly prodigious amounts at once.

Props to Nahid for catching the torpedo simulation fake out, and catching that it was indeed near Jupiter.

The ships firing at the end were UN and Mars ships in orbit around Ganymede. When the Marines started firing, the ships did too, thinking it was an attack by the other side. They hit the orbital mirrors (used for crop growth) by accident. We don't know what the drone was doing, or who was controlling it.

That explains what happened to the Martian squad then. It's pretty hard to survive huge shards of glass falling on you from space.

Ganymede also produces most of the food for the Belt, so losing that capacity is a massive issue, period, other implications notwithstanding.

Loving The Expanse reactions, this season is great stuff! Also the Martian Marines at the end were on Ganymede which was indeed orbiting Jupiter. And those giant things you saw shattering were huge mirrors to reflect sunlight into the agricultural domes on the planet. Ganymede is split into parts controlled by Earth and Mars and used as a primary space for food production and agriculture. Hence the ag domes on the surface.
