Also, Mickey, what are you talking about this isnt a "love marriage". That's exactly what this is and is the reason for choosing her over May. They explicitly hint many times last season at how he was torn up over Grace because he had fallen in love with her and she was gone just like that. And, we was truly never able to get over her. Polly hints at this when she's trying to talk Tommy out of his funk early on in the season about how there's plenty of fish in the sea. Then theres also the conversation between Tommy and May about how he should just "let that ship sail" in reference to Grace.

The secret is that he committed suicide, not that he was murdered, because in that time period suicide was incredibly taboo and not discussed. If Tommy had him murdered then it would have been done through the Blinders and Arthur would know, so why then did he whisper to Arthur that he committed suicide?
