We humans are simply social creatures who have evolved to (1) sense each others' emotions and through various physical clues like body language and voice tone, and (2) we involuntarily try to empathize with one another as closely as possible -- which is why when one guy gives off bad "vibes" the whole group tends to mirror his emotions and attitude, even if they don't want to.

I think what you need to consider with the dark spirits is, while your emotions in the spirit world influence your surroundings, it is not necessary completly controlling it. Spirits still have their own state of mind, powerfull spirits more so(fire bird dragon), than weaker ones(fluffy foot). Remember beginnings, Wans spirit friend from the oasis not only turned because of Vatu but ALSO because he was angry. Also emotions are energy, so i guess spirits (being energy-based beings) are more likely to get swept up in strong emotions.

Reincarnation my dude. When someone dies in this universe, they are immediately born as a new person. There is no way to contact the afterlife unless you intend to let your spirit remain in the spirit world, which is only possible if you have a super strong connection to it. So either Iroh would’ve died and be reborn as someone else, or he could live on in the spirit world and pass on his wisdom. It makes sense.

Hello, Zuko, I mean, Book 2 fan here, that being said, there are two things which i disagree strongly with in this season. The first is the use of Iroh (the second happens later on in the season). One thing about both Avatar series I've admired is a respect for character craft and therefore a consistency of character. Almost all characters in this universe are believable throughout their arcs, which is what helps the audience become invested in them and the show in general. This use of Iroh, to me, is a rare instance of ignoring character craft. Yes, Iroh is the perfect fit for what he is to Korra and to the audience in this episode, everything about him from his lantern, to his tea party, to his role in Aang and Zuko's life make him perfect for this job. However, Nahid and Suraj you were on it, Leaves from the Vine ya'll, don't act like that never happened writers of this episode, because it did. The way Iroh words it, he chose the spirits over the after life, over Lu Ten. Now there are other possibilities 1) there is no actual afterlife in this universe so a reunion was impossible or 2) Lu Ten is in the spirit world. The former doesn't mesh with the feel or concepts of this show and the latter isn't hinted to at all. Now if I'm putting myself in the writers' shoes, I understand why you'd want Iroh in this role, but it disrespects who he is. All of his life lessons to Zuko are made so much more impactful with Lu Ten in mind. Yes, Iroh was a guide, a moral compass, someone who helped you find your true self, but it was clear he was firstly a loving father. If he can't continue that role with his own son (or not even have it mentioned) then why should why he be that to Korra?

I'm surprise Rana wanted Jinora to be a sacrifice...Tenzin would've accepted that and Korra was to live with that? What light was she suppose to shine in that situation? Just because you feel you know the story doesn't make children sacrifices acceptable even if this is mature content.

Not sure if you noticed but this episode illustrates the fundamental difference between Aang and Korra. Avatar: Last Airbender ep 2x10 was “The Library.” At the beginning of “The Library”, Aang is playing a friendly musical game with the meerkats. However, in “A New Spiritual Age”, the meerkats are hostile with Korra. That speaks to the high maturity level of Aang spirituality. For Most of Korra’s experience in the spirit world, she is a child which is a representation of her spiritual immaturity.

I think whiny Korra, the stupid love triangle, and lacklustre animation is what killed it for me. I still consider this the weakest Book of the 4. But overall it’s still up there as far as animated shows go. Bruh we underhyped it well I guess.

Umm Aang stopped the firelord but like the only reason the firelord even had that power was because roku passive butt and then the only reason firelord reign was so long is because Aang was in an icecube had he only been there for a couple months he could’ve stopped Sozins son. I mean he beat Ozai in like six months after getting out of the iceberg or end of summer. So really he didn’t need to be there for 100 years??? Korra has already matched that with defeating Omon kind of. Because they thought 1 season so everything just adds to her feats. Kyoshi was the best avatar it’s why roku had it so easy her 200 year reign was the best... she was hot headed too she should be the guide for Korra but..... Korra doesn’t have a roku I think roku was so willing to help Aang because technically aang was cleaning up roku’s mess. Which he only needed a couple months to do... 100 years was obsessive but he couldn’t control that.

On the subject of Iroh quotes, my favorite from this episode was, "Sometimes the best way to solve your own problems is to help someone else." It calls back to his entire arc in TLA, and how his helping everyone around him was the thing that helped him come to terms with Lu Ten's death. There is absolutely some superb writing in this season, even if it's more concentrated in the last half. Season 2 is great, even if it has some weaknesses the rest of Avatar didn't.

Pretty telling when the best part of the episode is from the old series.

I will say this though you have to understand that most people didn’t like Season 2, because at the time, it was the last season of the show. So the pacing, love triangle, and bad animation was very discouraging. Also, most people don’t necessarily think Season 2 is awful it’s just not as good as Season 3 and 4. I personally enjoyed it, because I love Avatar no matter what, but I could see why people were upset and had higher expectations when it released.

I think he's completely out of place. Korra never met him before, and she's like 3 people removed from having a relationship with him.... it makes less than zero sense for him to be her spiritual adviser. It reeks of fan service. This really should have been Aang. Not only does that jive better with everything else we've seen up to this point, but it would have given them an opportunity to give adult Aang some freaking personality, since the tiny glimpse of him we got in S1 was so flat, dry, and boring.

Was waiting for this reaction. Seeing Iroh again was powerful and when I first saw this it blew me away. I didnt know how much I needed to see him again until I did. I still stand by this being the weakest season but perhaps with the strongest single moments. Wan's story and the Iroh introduction were amazing and emotional but the overall story of this season felt a bit disjointed and couple that with the animation inconsistency it was harder to enjoy than the rest of the series, there are other things that I didn't care for in this season but we haven't got there yet. I don't think its a terrible season infact overall it was enjoyable just less so than the others.

You guys are completely messed up about Unalaq’s intentions. He HAS meditated into the spirit world and knows the lay of the land. He only tried to open the portal with waterbending because he thought Korra was dead. Then when he heard she was alive and in the spirit world, he immediately kidnapped Jinora as leverage. It makes sense, you just need to pay more attention.

I think you guys may have some misconceptions about Uunalak (did I spell that right?) first he isn’t the one controlling spirits, that’s all Vatu, second he’s on good terms with spirits like Wong chi tong (did I spell that right??) because he’s always respected and kissed up to them, also I believe Micky was right in saying that he had been to the spirit world multiple times before the portal was opened, it just makes sense that he would learn all these things from either the library or vatu himself.

This episode makes me tear up every damn time. It's amazing though, just like the beginnings episodes. And even though the rest of this season is still awesome, I like the other seasons better for various reasons. So when people say it's the "worst" season, that doesn't mean its bad, the others are just better. Can't wait for season 3, my personal favorite.

I don't think there is an afterlife where Iroh would be reunited with his son. It would make sense that everyone in this world goes through reincarnation, not just the Avatar. What makes Avatar special is that they can remember their previous lives through Raava.

Dude we only saw Iroh for a short time but he managed to give like 20 life lessons! Iroh is the real mvp!

People don't understand that some fans say Season 2 has problems because of the Highest standard we hold it by is ATLA and you are saying that this is bad due to the standards of it but in it's own rights in which you will see in Season 3 and Season 4 is that these seasons live up to the standards of ATLA and so saying all this is to say that Season 1 is good and Season 2 is good and Beginings made it Season 2 awesome from there on out. ATLA is a hard act to follow and I loved LOK! Thanks Suraj you have given the best analysis of Season 2 because you see it what it's worth and what you would do at this age is a great point Micky!

TLDR: In ATLA, I think they put the focus mainly on the rest of the Gaang and could've given Aang a bit more attention, in LoK, I feel like they put the focus mainly on Korra, and could have given the rest of the crew more attention. (the other way around)

In ATLA the focus if we're talking about character developmeny was way more on Zuko and many other characters who had awesome development. I loved Aangs arc, but even though he is technically supposed to be the main character of ATLA, many people like to think of others as the main character. So yeah, even though I prefer ATLA as a whole, I think the Avatar's development in LoK was better than in ATLA. I wish they had given Mako, Bolin and Asami way more attention though, they're nothing compared to Sokka, Katara, Zuko and Toph.

I always related to Aang and Korra because I felt they were relatable for the times in my own life. When I was a kid I related to Aang because he was a happy go lucky kid and that was me and I related to Korra because as I got older I went through the same or similar things that she did. They both are awesome because they are both relatable.
