hated this episode. It shat on the entirety of the avatar series. This season was not only terrible but a disgrace. It took me years to actually continue watching with seasons 3 and 4.

I bet everyone has said this but I didn’t look at comments but it’s harmonic convergence last time this happened rava and wan touched the portal and were bonded forever starting the avatar cycle, so fast forward 10000 years and this uninspiring villain merge or bonded by touching the portal or vatu would have killed Unalaq just being inside him without that bond.

You guys were just like all depressed st the end of this one 😆 Can’t wait for the finale! Some people find the last fight hard to swallow, but remember that this is during a time of harmonic convergence, when spiritual energy is at it’s most powerful.

Not meaning to spoil the ending, just to explain some of the things that happen in the finale that happen without the context of above - so unless you've binged the whole thing in one go... it kinda seems out of the blue.

Micky's theory about the statue is almost dead on, except it's not the statue. Jinora has gone into the spirit world to retrieve something. Remember the episode with Iroh and the teapot. "You can still taste a bit of light in each cup" Plus, the passing line in Beginnings "Darkness and Light cannot exist without the other" -- The whole finale does very much borrow parallels from the ending of Kingdom Hearts "Deep down there's a light that never goes out"

yes the portal touching essentially "just" bonds the person with the spirit forever. also what happened at the end with the giant red purple dude? He essentially defeated Raava during harmonic convergence and as in beginnings when one gets weaker the other grows stronger, by Raava not existing in this world anymore Vaatu was able to grow exponentionally more powerfull and begin his 10000 years of darkness reign. Also Bolin felt always like he was acting in the beginning but then during the kiss he felt sth the little softie. ;)

Just to answer your question he touched the beams of energy to make it so that the two became one. That’s what Wan did as well in the Beginnings episodes if you go back and watch. It gave Wan the energy to hold Raava without dying with her staying inside him too long which was why he couldn’t save his friends or stop the his spirit friends in that little war and why Raava told him she had to leave him or he would die during the last harmonic convergence. That energy provided him and UnaVaatu with enough to contain the spirit.

3 is definitely the best season overall, but I think I enjoy episode 4x2 the most. 3x2 has a metal moment as well.

FACT: Just like how Avatar Wan obtained firebending as its first element that symbolizes the SPARK of a new Era for the Avatar, Unalaq who was a waterbender turned off that SPARK that Avatar Wan created in order for Unalaq and Vaatu create their own Era of Darkness as a Dark Avatar.

CLARIFICATION: I wanted to let u guys understand a few things. 1. Why did Unalaq and Vaatu or (UnaVaatu) became a giant spirit monster unlike the light avatar who has never had this ability? ANSWER: is because of two things, that is, Harmonic Convergence where all spiritual energy was amplified in both worlds like Jinora said in that "New Spiritual Age" episode while she was in Won Shi Tong's library. And 2 because now that UnaVaatu destroyed Raava along with the Avatar's past lives, He became so powerful that was able to grow enormously without Raava's presence.

The music in this show continues to be top-notch. I always get super emotional at Raava's destruction and the obliteration of the past avatars and the music is a big part of it.

Just to clarify, as I understand it, Unalaq touched the harmonic convergence bridge so that he could become the Avatar for Vatu. Wan does the same thing in the flashback. Rava said she couldn't stay inside his body for long otherwise he'd die. So, he touches the spirit energy bridge thing to lock her within his body and also to prevent him from dying. So touching that thing is basically the last step to becoming an official Avatar I guess.
