When you think about it all the early episodes are needed. They take the time to get to know the characters and to set up all the elements we see coming together now (and things that haven't yet happened). E1 - Centipede and Mike, E2 - What is an 084?, E3 - Ian Quinn, E4 - The Eye Control, E5 - Raina, E6 - FitzSimmons, E7- Victoria Hand, E8- Ward backstory and May, E9- May backstory, E10 - Mike+Centipede+Raina, E11 - Coulson Story + Clairvoyant, E12-More Quinn+Clairvoyant, E13- The parts really start coming together.. Actually the season was set up so well and these episode are so great BECAUSE they did the heavy work of introducing us to all the concepts in play and don't just dump it all on us at once.

Honestly, I think these are some of the best episodes in the show. I don't know if it's actually because they're good or if it's just because of how drastically they redefine this show but they're my favorites all the same.

Yeah they kept wondering why Ward shot him. Tripp said he would kill him if given the chance and then Coulson or Skye mentioned that the clairvoyant knew how to push the right buttons. Just pointing that out for continuity. :P
