Terry O'Quinn (Locke) and Michael Emerson (Ben) were competing in the supporting category at the Emmys while Cranston was of course a lead. Terry O'Quinn won for S3 and Emerson won for S5. Also, there wasn't that much overlap between BB and LOST; Breaking Bad started towards the end of LOST's run. edit - someone beat me to it :)

Nobody appreciated the fact that Ben stopped himself from killing Penelope because of Charlie. He wouldn't want the child to be without a mother, like he was. I mean, Ben is a sociopath and a liar, but still, he deserves his recognition for good behavior.

Cranston monopolised the ‘best Actor’ category while Mad Men occupied ‘best series’ (LOST and Breaking Bad were each other’s company in the best series nominations from Breaking Bad’s very first year). The year that Cranston finally lost and Mad Men took a year off (and Matthew Fox was finally nominated), Damien Lewis won it for Homeland. This is of course back when the Emmys still meant something and they didn’t just throw their awards and nominations away for ratings.
