2021-12-28 18:15:59 +0000 UTC(Continuation) Roswaal wants Subaru to be like him, a being that would sacrifice everything and everyone just for one person. Roswaal needs Emilia in order to complete his goal (to slay the Dragon) which is why he wants to Subaru to dedicate and do everything for Emilia, even if it means trampling on her wishes. Roswaal sent assassins to the mansion in order to make Subaru take a decision in who he should save (whether the mansion or the sanctuary).

Also makes the scene of Satella telling him yo love himself so much more powerful. Had no idea about the double personality inside WoE, thanks for the heads up, it will probably come in handy in future episodes!

2021-12-28 18:02:50 +0000 UTCSubaru, after not being able to deal with both the assassins sent to the mansion and the problems in the Sanctuary, was willing to use his own life as a way to gather more information. He started thinking of his life as disposable and as a tool he could use to complete his goals. This, of course, isn't a very good idea. By doing so, he would lose his own humanity and become a person who no longer fears death and would just loop as many times as it was necessary (just like Echidna wanted him to). Satella was trying to make him realize that he should love himself and shouldn't think of his life as just merely a tool for his needs but rather, as something precious. There is a very important detail about Satella that the anime for some reason skipped: Satella and the Witch of Envy are two different personalities, that could be thought of as different persons that inhabit one body. The two personalities (Satella and the WoE) both love Subaru, however, the WoE is more obsessive and Yandere-like over him. Satella is the one we saw in the tea party and who told Subaru love himself, meanwhile we saw the WoE a few episodes ago when she devoured the Sanctuary. All the Witches hate the WoE, but like Satella, except for Echidna. Echidna is the only one who hates both Satella and the WoE.
