As a person trying to learn Japanese, one of things I've come to realise is that much of the difficulty isn't that Japanese itself is a particularly difficult language, but instead it's difficult simply because it is so completely different from English. So my question is - in your experiences of teaching English to Japanese students, which aspects of the English language did they have particular difficulty with? S

The breakdown of the word "discuss(ion)" piqued my interest so I did a little research and found out that in Latin, "dis" means "apart" and "quatere" means "shake." "Discutere" is the original Latin verb meaning "dash to pieces," later "investigate". In Middle English, it meant "dispel" or "disperse." Basically, the word has changed meaning over time.
