Yea, that makes sense, it's cool they were able to make the movement so smooth even with a connection point. I wondered if maybe a battery system was on board and charging at each stop too, but I guess a small contact point is the easiest solution. -E

Let me begin by saying I did not go to school for this, I'm just a mechanic who likes to think about these complex engineering marvels. Now I read in the Wikipedia of the Linimo, that it gets 1500V of power from a "Third rail" system, which means either the piece in the middle of the track when you were filming from the inside out, or the two rusty iron colored strips on the inside of each "rail" are conductive surfaces. The train will have multiple "Conducting shoes" on the bottom that are spring loaded to contact the conducting surfaces at all times, like how the Shinkansen has the conducting bars on top of it contacting the hung wires at all times. I love that we share this fascination with things we don't fully understand. 😆

Happy Birthday Eric!!! I loved your visit to Nagoya. I never stopped there when in Japan but whizzed through on the train. Watching your video, I should have stopped and looked around. Being a wing fan, you had me salivating at the wing restaurant. Also, I'm a breakfast kind of guy so I think I need to stop there if I ever make it back! I received your postcard today of your new hood, showing the beautiful Jaguar from 1962. It is a great old photo, thank you! Take care you two:-)
