Weekly Update (9-22-2025)

Sadly, this week was less productive than I'd hoped for.

That definitely isn't to say I got nothing done, I did mostly finish up the surprise I mentioned. I also did some things on my longtime todo list, including sitting down to implement controller and key rebinding support. The latter isn't quite done because I ran into some weird issues near the end, but I'm confident that I'll get those sorted before the actual release.

The second major longstanding todo that I finally got done was a proper game over screen instead of an off-center default.

As the kids today say, "It's so over."

A third thing I got done was converting all the imported .mp3 sound effects to .ogg. This is more important than it seems, as mp3 playback in rpg maker causes bad audio distortion for a small subset of players. There were a lot more than I realized; I had to convert about 45 files. X_x;

Anyway, this is all technical stuff when I'd hoped to be writing. :/ But I had a pretty crappy week irl last week. Nothing specific and major, just a series of smaller frustrations that added up in a period where I've already been somewhat emotionally low. So, I just didn't get a lot done, and ended up spending more time than I 'd have preferred just doing things to feel better. Hopefully I'm more there now, so this week can be more what it should be. Just a lot going on irl, and a good amount of stress with it. So, I did technical stuff which I find much easier.

Setting that frustration aside, I do hope/expect this week will be better. And the stuff I got done last week was important, so it's not like it was useless by any means. There is one other technical thing I'd like to introduce this update, namely a new menu to view the busts of characters who have them from Alexander's notebook (and maybe some major characters who don't). Not 100% sure if I'll have time to do that, but if not, next update at the latest. Beyond being nice to have, this would--ironically--be much more convenient for me than updating the messy conditional branches in the book in Alexander's room, hah. RPG Maker offers a lot of conveniences, but sometimes just working in code rather than eventing makes things more straightforward.

Overall, not the week I wanted to have, but we press on. For now, back to hopefully getting a proper start on writing!
