Scrapped / Old Content (v.01)

Today's Patreon post might be a little different than normal, because today I'm revealing a bunch of old/scrapped content from New Day that will not make an appearance in the future! (Or it will, but it'll be severely edited).

1). The two images below are early showings of Knits Clothing Shop interior. Back then, it had a wall texture, ceiling texture, etc, but now, it's a barren husk of its former self. It still has its flooring, though!

In the last post, you saw the concepts of the new clothing shop, which will be in the game soon! This one is left in the past, though. It was too ugly for our liking, therefore, needed to be cut.

2). Fredrick used to actually have an appearance, rather than basic clothing / in the nude. 

He used to run the Town Hall, to be exact. The previous lore of the game was that Fredrick was a retailer, trying to sell islands to people. He caught you off of the street, sold you an island and lived on it rent-free, since you owed him, of course.

But that's all changed now, considering he's a god and you're one of his creations. Your island now is yours to keep, rather than paying off an infinite debt.

3). Below you'll see what the current New Day island looks like. It looks... really... familiar! That's because we HD'd Tomodachi Life's island. It was remade, retextured, and used at the beginning of development as a placeholder island. 

However, it's still not replaced... 

We're actually working on that now. We want New Day to have a truly unique island, rather than this boring static image!

4). Did you know that New Day used to have an old apartment interior? It was extremely similar to Tomodachi Life, just as the island was. 

The interior featured an actual window, which would change considering the current time of day. The window will eventually make a return in the Room Editor one day, but the flooring/wallpaper/ceiling tiles will not. 

It feels so weird to share and view this relic of New Day's past.

5). If you were a fan of the game near the beginning of development, you'd recognize this model!

This model was used as the basis for hairstyles in the Islander Creator. Instead of the hair appearing on your islander, it'd appear on this mannequin head instead! 

However it was eventually changed when everyone saw the previews for it and started telling me that they could hardly see what kind of hairstyle was on this mannequin head. It was removed soon after and never saw again.

6). Did you know that in old New Day builds with the previous apartment interiors, there were automatically installed cameras within the apartments?

These cameras served as a way for you to "interact" with your islander whilst staying friendly to the old lore of you being a landlord of your own island. 

They were removed for obvious reasons... I'm sure your islanders do not want to be spied on now, especially since your role is a newly-trained god taking control over a new island, and not a sleazy landlord anymore.

7). In old builds, chat bubbles would appear from the islander's head describing the issue they're currently having. This was removed from the game due to bug errors, and it was too tedious to keep. Eventually, it'll make a return, but the sprite in the bubble and the bubble sprite itself will not be returning to the game. It feels outdated now.

8). New Day used to have a calendar screen!

Now, this will be making a return, I just wanted to show off how basic it used to be.

Whenever we implement the new calendar screen, I'd like for it to predict weather dates and the beginning/end of each season.

9). And last of all, the old Islander Creator UI.

You can definitely tell that it took inspiration from Tomodachi Life -- considering the font is 100% the same.

It's so weird browsing through all of these old images of the games development and looking at where we are now. We've come a long way, and we've still got a lot to go. Hopefully you'll all stick around until the end of development!
