I'm pretty sure we both missed that. I'm not sure about Griff, but despite our joking, my focus was more on the futility of their sacrifice given that the warning they died trying to give was already known.

When Prelati is drinking to her she mentions how Cagliostro always referred to her "woman's intuition", despite being a man until she acquired her alchemical skills. There was actually a significant hint of this in her fight with Chris when her voice suddenly becomes far deeper. Cagliostro's voice actor is male, doing a female voice. During that fight, when she's forced to go all out and devote all her energy to that desperate last-minute attempt to beat Chris, she reverts back to her voice from when she was a man. It's one of the very very few instances in anime in which a character being trans is both confirmed and, more interestingly, not treated as a joke. Prelati this episode is the only one that makes a remark that's negative about it, but even then it's clear that she still respects and trusts Cagliostro, as she's actively honoring her death and following her final warning.
