[SILVER] Symphogear XV (Episode 13) "Let's Make History with a Light That Even the Gods Don't Know"

Comments

I've never watched Revue Starlight, though I know what it is about. I used to use an AMV of it in a character inspiration playlist from back in our tabletop days. I compared Symphogear to Gurren Lagann a lot throughout this entire series, and I think Gurren Lagann might be my favorite show of all time, so that's gotta be a good thing. When you get down to it, both shows have the same sort of message at the end, especially if you compare them to shows like Evangelion. Seeing how yall were getting a Symphogear series once every two years. Hitting a -Fin- and then having nothing more to expect has gotta be rough. I know Next is on the horizon, but no info and no expected date... When I saw 'The End' show up in our Witch from Mercury reaction, I instantly got sad. Here... it took me till I got to editing this episode for it to kick in. We've been with these characters for almost two years solid, from concertgoer to world stage. It's always hard to end a show, and we have at least a few more extras to go through.

Know Your Roll

There are very few anime I've given a 10/10, so far only 11. Symphogear XV is one of them. For me a 10 isn't perfect in every possible way, it just needs to do something absolutely nothing else can top. Where XV hits that qualification is that it is truly the ideal Symphogear season, the perfect finale. So much hype, so many great endings to character development, and so much incredible fanservice. It is a love letter to the fans, more than anything else I've ever watched. Sure there are shows with better narratives and I wouldn't rate Symphogear overall as a 10, but this one season is everything I could have possibly hoped for as a fan. It was the perfect send-off to one of the most fun anime I've ever watched. That all being said, I am still so eager to see where they could possibly go from here. There is already a movie in production plus another unspecified project. The mobile game went into alternate universes, which is fun in its own right but more a gimmick for a gacha game than a real story. The most likely continuation here is that there are other Custodians out there in the universe and the girls get to punch even more gods. Either way, the world of any sequel is going to be incredibly fucked up and I can't wait to see it. Shem-ha moved the entire world, there's no way that has no negative effects on things. At the end of the day though, there really is nothing else like Symphogear out there. It's most often compared to Gurren Lagann for good reason, although I think it's got its own unique brand with both the musical elements and fight scenes to make it stand out as one of a kind. The only other show I tend to compare it to is Revue Starlight, another show that uses music as a driving force for its fight scenes, although that one is far more serious and dramatic, as it's about theater. It's tons of fun and another favorite of mine, but once again fails to scratch the Symphogear itch. It's just too unique to replace.
