Not mentioned in the Anime, but Akatsuki's lore is basically an upgraded Strike body (the OG one) with Beam reflector armor instead of phase shift, called "Yata-no-Kagami" which roughly translates over to "The Eight-Span Mirror" or "Mirror of Eight Hands", something from Japanese mythology. The manufacture cost is as much as 20 M1 Astrays (Orb's grunt mobile suits)
