I feel you ๐Ÿฅน Like our brain can make sense of everything and we know what to do but our hands have other plans ๐Ÿ˜ญ

This is 100% how I feel about violin. Haven't played since 2006 and I have zero idea how to start again. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I'm seeing a doctor this week and I'm hoping it's not related to the mold issue. We had the entire duct system replaced and I felt better after that. These headaches and migraines came about shortly after that issue was resolved and has been increasing in frequency.

I'll be seeing a doctor this Wednesday to see what's going on. Praying it's not anything bad

That's such an adorable and funny little comic. HAHA, i wonder what my music teacher would have replied, had i said something like that! I'm sorry to hear about your headaches and migraines, my better half suffers from those on the regular, and i see the suffering. Can you think of when it started, to figure out what might have brought this on? Especially if you don't get them often. I recall a while back you had issues with the landlord about the AC system? Maybe a filter change is in order? Mold can do a world of awful things health wise, and some climates lend themselves to that easier than others. Anyway, not trying to pry, but that's all i can think of to help in any way. Take care and be well, anything else can wait. As for hand movements, maybe try origami, or macrame, and get a squeeze ball to help with finger/hand dexterity and strenght?

Wow, the cello is such an amazing instrument. I believe it's one of a handful that sounds most like a human voice. I'm going to borrow a line from my favorite poem Desiderata, and say please Be Gentle with yourself. You play with your heart and mind, not just your fingers. They're just an extension of you. It will take time, and I'm sure it will be frustrating at first, but your fingers will remember. The headaches are concerning. Have you found a new doctor who knows your history? Or do you keep in touch with your old one? Please take care.

Sometimes getting back into the groove is the start you need and then when it feels right you can go on the harder stuff!

I thought of that! It's tricky when you're trying to limit screen time though. I've been suffering headaches and migraines almost everyday now ๐Ÿฅฒ (also scared I might get addicted because it has happened in the past ๐Ÿ˜ญ)

Girl I hate thumb position with a passion. That shit hurts and worse it comes with reading treble clef. Like save that shit for the violins. Let me have my peace with my bass and tenor ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ It's the only reason I never continued my cello studies past college ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Go for it! Even if you just start with the easier pieces. You'll still benefit and enjoy playing it โ˜บ๏ธ

I hope you are able to practice and play again. A friend of mine went on a journey and even got to play with the local college orchestra after auditioning. It was a lot of work to get back into it yet a rewarding experience (which she had documented on YT but has since take it down I believe lol)

if cello is too intimidating, i hear playing video games and using a controller improves fine motor skills in your hands

Not the thumb position ๐Ÿ˜ญ My worst moment of college was realizing that I actually needed it for my solo jury piece and there was no way around it (I spent *years* cheating my way out of thumb position) If you havenโ€™t been playing though, definitely start small, especially because of your art wrists. It can be frustrating to have to go backwards before going forwards, but your body will start to remember the motions and rebuild those muscles. And then once you have that foundation back youโ€™ll be in a better place to take on the challenges and improve. Hopefully itโ€™s an easy journey to bringing back that dexterity once you get back in the swing ๐Ÿ™
