Immune – A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive

Since my name is on the cover, I probably should introduce myself real quick. I'm Philipp Dettmer and I'm the Founder, CEO, and most importantly, Head Writer of Kurzgesagt. So even if you don't know my voice, you know my words and thoughts and ideas.
What is this book about? Well, the title did give it away. It's about the immune system in all its wonder and mystery and beauty.
Did you know that your immune system is the second most complex biological system known to humanity, after the human brain? That you have a dedicated immune organ above your heart, about the size of a chicken wing? And that this tiny organ is one of the reasons why you will get more sick when you age? By the way, while you read the last few sentences, your immune system probably killed a young cancer cell somewhere in your body. But it does not just fight cancer. At this moment your immune system carries a weapon against the plague, the coronavirus, and a bacterium that will evolve in 500 years on the first human Mars colony.
IMMUNE will explore all of these things and tell the grand story of the beautiful part of you that keeps you alive every day. IMMUNE is written in the usual care-free language and curiosity that you come to enjoy from Kurzgesagt. On top of that, the Creative Director of Kurzgesagt has made over 40 full-page illustrations to add some fun and color to the book.
So yeah, what can I say. This book seriously means a lot to me. I've been writing it on and off for the last decade and decided to finish it during the pandemic, as it (obviously) felt like the right time. I hope it does well so I can write more books like it. Turns out, a huge factor that will determine a book's success is preorders because they tell the publishers that there is interest, so they will use more resources to promote it. This early announcement phase is pretty important. So if I made you a bit curious and you think I do a good job writing for the channel, it would mean a lot to me if you would preorder it.
