I adore this film. Saw it in a packed theatre in '83 or '84 as a kid. It was a gigantic hit and ran in cinemas for a record breaking 5 years or something crazy like that. Spielberg considers his favourite of his own films as well as his most "personal" one. Your reaction was awesome, one of your best.
