Schedule Update + Character ART

Hey Guys!

Last of these types of posts I’ll be making for a lil bit, I swear, but listen up cause this one’s pretty important (and it’ll be as long-winded as usual, so my resident TLDR readers, if you exist, please look at the text in bolded brackets. Then at the art).

First and foremost, for those of you wondering where the chapter, it’ll be up sometime tomorrow (100%) and it’ll most definitely have a floof pic along with it this time. This one’s been almost done but not quite to my satisfaction for a while now, and I just need a little more time with it to get it there.

I’ll also be the first to admit that I haven’t been writing much the past couple days.

The adrenaline from launching the last month and a half has finally begun to fade, and in its absence I’ve begun to hear the hoarse whisper of burn-out and I decided to listen. I’ve mostly just lazed about/meditated on the meaning of life for these last few, which seemed to have appeased it. On top of that, I’ve also had some other things come up in my life the past week that required my attention and which I didn’t make proper time for (y’all may have noticed by the erratic release schedule >.<).

Anyways, this is all tangentially related to the subject of this post but we’ll get to that. The main deal is this.

[NEW SCHEDULE: I’ll be posting once a week, every Tuesday at a minimum. Then there may or may not be additional chapter releases on an unstated schedule, posted whenever I find myself well rested and satisfied with them.

I’ll also be taking a 3 week break from posting on RR in order to increase my patreon backlog here. Probably the least cruel chapter to leave them hanging on]

Basically, I’ve come to recognize that I cannot commit myself to a 2x/week release schedule at the current moment. I had thought, initially, that having some backlog would help, but my backlog turned traitor on my productivity once I started seeing some flaws in it, so I’d like to apologize for failing to live up to the premise of my patreon launch.

That said, it’s not all bummer news today.

I mentioned I had some life stuff come up, and a lot of that is that I’ll be changing my employment stitch. A good chunk of my financial stress has been relieved thanks to y’all, and I’ve decided to minimize my expenses in order to give myself a little more time to write. Got something lined up already and I’ll be working less hours soon. Not a lot less, but less.

[Oh, fair warning though: I haven’t received my hours yet but I start relatively soon. It’s unlikely, but there may be a slight delay for this next Tuesday if an inordinate amount of days fall right before my deadline. I’ll keep y’all updated if that happens.]

Just to be clear though, this shift doesn’t necessarily mean I’ll be writing more. I’d already known from the start that the amount I was doing here would be unsustainable, I’d just underestimated the extent. I do intend to write more than 1x/week if I can help it, but with this extra bit of time I’ll be focusing primarily on improving my lifestyle and craft rather than the volume of my output.

I mentioned this in the last post, but I’ve started to realize just how important it is to me that I’m wholly satisfied with what I put out. And I’ve been getting close to meeting that in terms of flow and storytelling, but I’m not quite where I want to be. A lot of work goes into the story beyond what makes it onto the page, and one of the reasons for this change is that I want to give my chapters and overall story the time they need before I ship them out (whether that’s outlining/foreshadowing, letting a chapter sit before edits, researching a needless amount of billiards, etc).

So yeah, in summary, I’ll try to give a lil more than 1x/week if I can, but no promises for the moment. Y’all been very kind and understanding with me, so I’d like to pay that back as much as I can with my writing.

Until next time :)

Also sorry to those who are undergoing Sophie-withdrawal symptom’s rn. I thought about putting a couple floof’s here to make up for the last chap, but Krazekode commissioned an amazing character sketch for Alex that just got finished, and that takes precedence right now.

Completely understandable and it sounds like you have a good plan going forward, I hope it all works out. I’ll be there as long as my wallet holds out. Good luck and I can’t wait for the next chapter.

The sketch looks good. Don't worry about the schedule. If you could keep updating once a week consistently it would already be great. All my favorites often take months long breaks between chapters...
