What the hell happened?...

...this past Monday as I was putting the finishing touches on chapter 2 page 1, I stepped away from my computer for a while. When I returned I’d discovered my computer had turned off (still not sure why). Fortunately everything was saved but when I tried to open the file I got the above error.

I wrote and deleted maybe half a dozen fuming posts about this before I got my ass back to work and started over. In some ways this newer page does not pass muster for me (there were originally backgrounds in panels 2 and 3, and panel one was more detailed) but some of the expressions look better here than the original.

I wondered whether or not I should mention what happened as I like to keep Patreon positive and not as a place to vent (there are plenty of other places out there where you can get that). Now that the page is done and we can move on, the whole thing is more of an interesting occurrence and not a rage inducing disaster.

Still, it happened. Thought I’d shared. Taking a few extra steps to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.

What the hell happened?...

Oh, another thing I do to safeguard against this kind of stuff is this old, super basic printscreen program. https://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/ It just runs in the background (using a whopping 2mb of memory) and allows you to skip the hassle of pasting a printscreen from clipboard into PS/CSP and exporting it. I just hit printscreen and it immediately saves a png to a preselected folder, and over the years it's become muscle memory to just grab a screenshot every now and then during drawing. It wouldn't get you your .clip file back, but you'd at least be able to trace over your own screenshot if the need arose.

Check in your Preferences if you've got Canvas Recovery ticked (and if not, tick it for future). https://sta.sh/02dsq4wct0tt This will save periodic backups as *separate files* - mine are located in C:\Users\(name)\Documents\CELSYS\CLIPStudioPaintData\DocumentBackup . Win 7, not sure if 10 would have a different path. So now, should a file I'm working on get corrupted due to a power cut etc, I have some previous saves to fall back on. Obviously there'd still be lost work, but it wouldn't be everything. https://sta.sh/016rvg3cc4vp Hopefully, if you already had the Canvas Recovery ticked, maybe you can even find a previous WIP save of that corrupted file, and combine it with your new redraw?

Please, let us know about things like this. We might be able to offer technical assistance or a bit of sympathy.

Oh dear, but no worries about sharing this. It's not the first time you've shared life events with us and that kind of thing is related to us. I'm glad it wasn't too bad.
