Lets have some fun...

...name your favorite monster and why.

Going for fictional creatures. Classic Hollywood, mythology, Cthulhu Cycle, creepypastas and SPCs are welcome!

I’ll go first: Siren Head. The first video I saw was on I randomly stumbled upon. Didn’t know what I was looking at. Did more research and this giant, noisy thing is somehow able to sneak up on people. Creepy!

Alien Xenomoph is a close second, it would be first, but Siren Head is more mysterious to me.

Your turn!

Lets have some fun...

Another winner! Monsters that embody our worst fears, the monsters that we’re capable of becoming if we are driven too far, are the my favorite. Have you seen the movie Ravenous? It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but it definitely touched upon the themes, if not the creature itself. Worth checking out.

Stereoscope Comics

Ooo....I am not familiar with this one at all! Time for some research. Thanks for sharing!

Stereoscope Comics

I did not know about the Scarlett king! I’ve got some reading to do! Speaking of reading, somewhere around here I have a well thumbed copy of the king in yellow. It is a weird book, an anthology of stories about people who have in one way or another come into contact with the Yellow Sign. I had to read it several times to follow a lot of what was going on, but it was interesting.

Stereoscope Comics

I remember that one! Nothing scarier than when your home (usually the safest place in the world) becomes a literal battleground. Good one!

Stereoscope Comics

Yes! Another good one! The thought of a Cthulhu Mythos creature taking interest in mankind is very unsettling. Not unlike a cruel child admiring an anthill before stepping on it. I’ve been wanting to run The Masks of Nyarlathotep game, but it’s so huge. ^^;

Stereoscope Comics

The dark, half-visible phantom that follows me between the streetlights when I get lazy about taking my antipsychotics. For strictly fictional - the Hiver from Terry Pratchett's 'Hat Full Of Sky.' I'm a big fan of any well written mind-altering body-stealing possessor demon.

Chiron Auva

Yuki no Onna is my favorite mythological archetype, she's so wholesome.

Ian Price

“Stampede!”

Stereoscope Comics

Sexy cat girls: Earths greatest monster. ;)

Stereoscope Comics

Your not wrong, and there have been some good ones! Hemlock Grove had a good take. Any favorites?

Stereoscope Comics

Ah, the Thing! I’m not usually a fan of the monster disguising itself so perfectly as a normal person, but they really pulled it off in that movie! That and I am a sucker for practical effects. :)

Stereoscope Comics

Another new one for me to explore! After a brief stroll through the fandom wiki I can say that Stross’ work sounds up my alley...and his take on unicorns sounds horrifying. I couldn’t find a plot synopsis, so I have no idea what happens, but were enough clues scattered about to let me know that something really screwed up happens.

Stereoscope Comics

Very nice! Wasn’t familiar with this one, but then, I’m not a time traveler. My mind jumped straight to Lovecraft’s, THE HOUND.

Stereoscope Comics

Hmmm, yes, I forgot vampires qualify as monsters. That would be my pick too then. At first I read the question as "what monster are you the most scared of", but it says "favorite". So yup, vamps for me too!

PulpFiction

The one that looks back at me in the mirror... How did no one else say it yet?

DuskStealth

That's a tie between werewolves and werecats. Werewolves because they look pretty strong, werecats because they look pretty sexy, especially the girls.

Dragon86

Craboids all stages

O911

Werewolves cause there are an endless amount of ways to characterize and use them.

Andrew Evans

That's a toughy. There are so many that I enjoy. Kind of hard to pick a favorite. But if I had to pick one, it would be SCP-3000 Anantashesha. A giant eel located somewhere in the Indian Ocean. Causing metal and psychological damage to those who are near it or directly observe it. Combing my favorite Norse legend, Jörmungandr, the world serpent, with lovecraftian elements.

kou32

Ok, I'll share. For me, it's a simple answer: my fave is the KING of the monsters himself, Godzilla! Besides the fact that he, no matter how many times he gets beaten on, he always prevails one way or another and his many atomic abilities including atomic breath, I love the metaphor he represents of humanity's arrogance and recklessness and how little control we really have when it comes to nature. Thanks for joining my Tedtalk. Go #TeamGodzilla!

Lone_Wolf772

There was a TV movie in 1975 called Trilogy of Terror. One of the three had a small statue (creepy looking as hell) that had a ring of beads around it and a warning to not remove them. Of course, the beads came off and that little bastard came to life, terrorizing the poor lady alone in the house. I was 6 and it scared the crap out of me.

Gus Chiggins

Nyarlathotep. He's the most human entity in the Cthulhu Mythos, may well have helped our evolution and even seems to quite like us when he isn't actively opening the way for his dark masters or being a cosmic Troll for shits and giggles

Michael

The Groke from moomins 90s cartoon, not scary design but her introduction on the cartoon was undoubtedly frightening

ressuiii

Also, the Wendigo. The dark embodiment of huddling cold, cramped, hungry and fearful amid a raging storm, all the fears and doubts and helplessness and gnawing starvation given form in a wandering spirit of rage and cannibalism.

BreakerMouse

Vampires. Classic, and so many different takes, but they're the sort of monsters that you fear, but you also really want to become. Anne rice touched on it a few times, when she wasn't busy with her homoerotica: the horror of releasing the monster within.

BreakerMouse

That was a nice read!

PulpFiction

I'm gonna go with the Penanggalan - a flying witch's head that sucks unborn babies out of pregnant mother's wombs. Creepy!

Haldon Lindstrom

Haster (Cthulhu) and/or "The Scarlet King", the second is inspired by Haster but in a SCP context.

Allen Walker

scp 96 the shy guy ima leave it there

Hypnotickagon

So I just Googled SCP-072, and now I hate you...

PsyGremlin

Ok, so the minute I learn that Siren Head is a thing, the very next mail tells me about the "Dark Watchers of Big Sur." Clearly, I'm keeping the lights on tonight. And I dunno about "favorite" but the eponymous Thing freaked the hell out of me.

PsyGremlin

The unicorn from Charles Stross' novella Equoid. I've never been more unnerved by a monster. Or perhaps Shara Ishvalda from Monster Hunter World, sure it's something you can fight and kill, but it has this really fascinating Buddhist/Third Eye theme to it. Even better, unlike all other monsters its eyes will stare right into the camera the entire time you're fighting it, like it knows its adversary is you the player, not your character.

Kalia Grey

Okaaaay... Monster... so... Hound of Tindalos, just because the darn thing is unrelenting and won't let you escape.

Scylla

Ok SCP-072 is a it. The first time I read about that one I couldn't sleep. The line "SCP-072 will then use its pointed fingers to cut portions of flesh from the exposed parts of the subject's foot or feet." I just want to find the person who wrote that and ask them who hurt you...
