[PATREON EXCLUSIVE] 5 Players That Just Missed The Foolish 50

Comments

Votto was considered heavily. The aging curve scared me off. Even though he had a brilliant season at 37, you never know what 38 has in store. He'd be in the 50s ranking wise. As for Salvy, his framing is BAD. Real BAD. People might cite his ability to throw out baserunners as evidence of good catching, but the framing is far more important and he's BAD. As good as his bat is, Smith and Grandal hit better in terms of stats like OPS+. And Realmuto is WAYYYYY better defensively. Perez was honestly NOT heavily considered. Just shows what I prioritize in a catcher. He'd be top 50 with robo-umps.

Mr Foolish can I ask you where the presence of a certain reds first baseman who is most likely going to be a future hall of famer, as well as a royals catcher who crushed 45+ home runs last year?

Max Greineder

I agree. Definitely hoping we have a few that crack your top 50 next year though. Not surprised that Robby Ray doesn't even crack your honorable mentions. Do you think his contract was a significant overpay? What are your expectations for him this season?

Winker came the closest for me. I will say that individual stars in baseball aren't as impactful as in other sports. You can very well have a good team without having a single top 50 player.

Can't help but notice there are no Mariners players on the main list or who even missed the cut. Very optimistic about this team and I hope they make the cut next year after proving themselves a bit further. Winker and Ray made the MLBN list but I could totally see Haniger, Ty France, Logan Gilbert, and hopefully Julio makinging big splashes this year!

I’d be interested to see a ranking or discussion of some sort on utility type players. Like Kiké Hernández had a really solid season last year and incredible postseason despite a lot of switching between 2nd base and outfield. I think there’s a lot of players like him that maybe don’t put up WAR numbers deserving of top 50, but might actually provide just as much value in immeasurable ways. Love your vids btw <3
