Random AF Hypothetical: Do you think Rick Ankiel (43 on 7/19) could pound a strike zone repeatedly now that he has been removed from the game for years and almost two decades since pitching in his final major league game?

Just moved out of my parnets house. Any advice for living on your own while dealing with the constant struggle of watching the Cubs?

Jon Wondrasek

This year, Byron Buxton and Luis Arraez have been roughly equivalent in offensive production. Buxton has done it with low OBP and lots of XBHs while Arraez has done it with walks, singles, and a handful of doubles. Ignoring their defensive and base running abilities, which player would you rather have on your roster? As a fan, which one do you like watching more?

Do you think Tatis will be enough to carry the Padres to the postseason? They seem to be in a pretty good position if they make it considering how good the starting pitching depth is, but the lack of slugging is pretty tough and they aren't exactly 100% secure in the Wild Card race. Having trouble with what to make of this team really.

After stronger PED testing was instituted in the early to mid 2000's, it's generally accepted that baseball is a cleaner game than how it used to be. Of course, players still get caught and I'm sure some people have found ways to beat the tests. Just how clean do you think today's game actually is?

Patrick

you get one trade to actively harm the game. Who do you send where?

SIERA theoretically should match up pretty well with what happens on the field. It solves a lot of the contact quality problems with FIP. Yet like FIP it seems to have trouble actually measuring what happened. I.e Tarik Skubal beating out Gonslin and Alcantara. Why do you think this is?

Jack Budington

Do you have any idea what happened to Adam Frazier?

If trevor bauer were to come back and throw amazingly for the next 10 years (we’re talking HoF level) would he still be a worthy HoF candidate, or would his performance not be able to overcome his controversy, or even should it?

Marcus Semien has some of the most drastically road-favored splits in modern baseball history this year. If you play narrative ball and include his season-opening series at Rogers (a stadium he also underperformed in last year when it finally opened), you get an even more ridiculous grass/turf split, the likes of which we haven’t seen sustained through a whole season since turf’s heyday. While I’m sure this has a lot more to do with Globe Life Field & a smaller sample size than the playing surface itself, it got me thinking: what are the most interesting splits for a season or career you’ve ever seen (especially related to playing conditions)?

The Giants went from 107 wins to a .500 club with a below average bullpen that can’t play defense. They are 5-10 in their last 15 and eight games back of the National League West (as of 7:41pm on July 2nd). In the off-season, they brought back a majority of their offense and even improved the rotation, but we’re not seeing results. Do you think they have the ability to turn it around in the second half or should I start looking forward to collegiate soccer in the fall? Also, sidenote, a good friend of mine just moved up to Atlanta and I’m visiting him relatively frequently. Do you have any good food recommendations in the area?

Do you have any interest in college baseball and if so as a Tennessee fan I would love to know how you feel about our team

Andrew Wyatt

Do you think that Walker Buehler could make the same adjustments as Corbin Burnes did, by dropping his 4 seamer and converting to throwing a sinker/cutter combination? His FB seems like it's one of the worst pitches in the league. Especially considering his struggles this year, when I was expecting him to take the step to Cy Young favorite.

Could you do a quick rundown of some of the sites you use for data and maybe some strengths they have? I find myself going into stat holes every now and again and I'll often know exactly what I'm looking for but not know which site I need.

Bo Brown

The Padres released their city connect jerseys paying homage to Baja and San Diego and their Spanish language radio affiliate is licensed in Tijuana. Would the Padres/MLB ever consider hosting some games in Baja California (if a stadium exists)? Or even just a rotating slate of MLB match ups played in Mexican stadiums across the country?

Joshua Watkin

*Simplified comment* Given the troubles of touted prospects like Kelenic and Adell, at what point should teams start to lower expectations and what are some stats you weigh heavily vs traditional ones like scouting grades?

Nicholas Fu

About a year ago, you ranked all of the Baseball Bits episodes in TierMaker. Would you consider an update with the new ones that have come out since then?

Obviously Pablo Sandoval's and Bumgardner's individual play in the 2012 and 2014 World Series led to the eventual wins, but was San Francisco's 2008 draft (Posey/Crawford) and the lack of eventual MLB stars signed from the rest of the league(Kimbrel, Lynn, Hosmer, Blackmon) most responsible for their 3 world series in 5 years?

Burt Oldirty

After his 19 K perfect game followed by 8 more perfect innings in April, many regard Roki Sasaki as the best pitching prospect in the world. Japanese media has compared him to Hunter Greene this season: both are incredibly young right-handers that can hit 100+ mph. Where would you rank Sasaki on a top 100 prospects list if he played for an MLB organization right now?

G

hi Bailey! fellow Atlantan here. i know before the season started you were kinda big on the Guardians and I'm starting to drink that juice. curious if there are any teams (besides the Braves) you are also big on for this season. personally i like the marlins and mariners altho they are struggling so far. P.S. i would like Atlanta CC to feature either a peach theme or coca cola

Eric Wu

Do you think the extra innings runner starting on second base rule is here to stay? (Apologies if this has already been asked)

Troy Lahrman

Is there any player attribute that has traditionally been considered an intangible that you think will become more measurable or predictable in the future? I was thinking about how some pitchers start to locate pitches that have been missing after a few innings or that stay competitive after giving up a lead.

Matt Foley

What do you project for Julio Rodriguez both for this season and the rest of his career? I think he can be like Fernando Tatis Jr in a number of ways on and off the field, he plays with an exuberance and passion for the game, he’s athletic and a manic on the basepaths, strikes out a lot like you would expect a young star to do and is already a fan favourite. Like you’ve mentioned with Tatis before, the fact that he’s Dominican and speaks great English gives him a wider range of appeal. On Baseball Savant he has multiple red circles including average and max exit velocity, hard hit%, barrel%, sprint speed, and outs above average. All of his other circles that are average or below average are either things that are either trending up or are things he can work on including K% and whiff rate. Do you think he can be a top 3 CF in the next few years (presuming Trout becomes a corner outfielder or DH)?

Chris Waind

Is there a general rule of thumb as to how much depth a team should be expected to have on its roster? I'm tired of opening Twitter and seeing a million "a team running out a lineup featuring [BAD/YOUNG/FRINGE PLAYER] clearly does not want to win fire the GM" when, like, half the core pieces of the lineup are out with injuries

What does deGroms new contract look like after he opts out this year?

Jackson Ingram

Is there something I'm missing regarding why the Twins trust Emilio Pagán so much? He is among the hardest-hit and wildest pitchers in MLB and his peripherals have been terrible all season (even when he was pitching to a sub-3 ERA), and yet he's coming into ballgames with not only the highest average leverage index on this team (1.84, ahead of even Jhoan Duran) but also the highest of his career to date (even ahead of the year he led the Rays in saves). I know Minnesota's bullpen is full of less-than-favorable options, but why do they keep going out of their way to throw specifically him into the most dire situations?

Eli Powell

What are your thoughts on Yordan and Jermey Peña this season?

Any chance there are more Hot takes videos on the way, or maybe another Big Boy Baseball Awards at the end of the season? If you have time, Why are the Tiger's so bad?

Imagine you wake up one day and you're given the option to either induct one player who retired within the last 20 years into the Hall of Fame, or to revoke and re-award any one award from any season within the last 20 years. What do you do, and why?

Dan Russell

If you had to make a team where every player had the same first name (from any era) which name/team would be the best?
