McNeil's a lefty who has one of those swings that carries him out the box. He doesn't have the highest top end speed, but I suspect he's getting a boost simply by virtue of having a head start down the line.

2022-10-15 14:05:56 +0000 UTCNot the same concept. I feel like there is a little difference between English to Spanish versus English to Japanese. I difference being every Dominican, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican, etc. player can still communicate fluently as most are bilingual, and even if they didn’t know, a single English word, could still interact in the dugout, on field, or wherever. Ohtani does not exactly have the option to interact other than to a minimal degree. In the absence of that, the only thing to focus on is the game and whatever is in his brain.

2022-10-15 04:01:02 +0000 UTCNo right or wrong answer, but just your thoughts… first stat of high leverage OPS or OPS+… to what degree do you think the minimized distractions/interactions as a result of the language barrier play a factor? Ridiculously nuanced, and nothing could prove my theory I don’t believe, but to be as successful in such high pressure situations, ON THE HIGHEST LEVEL/STAGE requires superhuman focus. This is not to say he would not be successful regardless. Just an interesting ponder.
