Zeke Peterson

Do you think Sandy Alcantara’s 2022 Cy Young winning season sustainable in terms of innings pitched, complete games, etc, or will we see some regression?

Did the Cubs make enough moves this off-season for significant improvement?

Jason Coppe

For a sport that is so analytically driven, why does it feel like many front offices struggle with the sunk cost fallacy and insist on playing the players with big contracts? There must be something more casual fans like myself are missing.

Can you rank your top 5 most well managed teams? i would personally go 1. Rays 2. Astros 3. Braves 4. Dodgers 5. Yankees. I will point out that I am a Yankee fan.

Do you think Tama Bay's pitcher development cause more injuries than the rest of the MLB? Or is it simply an aberration and there's no real connection between the two?

Harper-Leighton Scott

I hope you're having a wonderful 2023, Bailey. A while back I found myself spending the better part of an hour browsing Baseball Reference's retired numbers page (https://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/major-league-baseball-retired-uniforms.shtml) trying to decide which franchise is the platonic ideal for retired numbers. I'm curious what your choice would be. Not the collection of greatest players necessarily, but also that which best reflects the history of the franchise. Also, which franchise do you think did retired numbers the worst? You can do top 1, top 3, or top 5 for both. It's your channel after all.

What’s your go-to ballpark food order? Are you keeping it pretty traditional with a hotdog+fries+beer? Do nachos enter the fold (and are they topped with jalapeños)? Should peanuts by the bag kick rocks? Are we balling out and going for ice cream in a helmet? What is a crackerjack?

The Mariners (John Stanton) are the most recent offender to cry poor while the fans anxiously await the construction of a World Series contending team. Jerry Dipoto has been made to look a fool now because of interview responses he’s given in the past claiming free agency activity in order to significantly improve the roster. Here we are today and Trevor Gott is the biggest addition the club has made in free agency. As it stands the Mariners are looking to yet again have a payroll that is below league average even though they should be trying to improve on last year’s success. So my question is do you have any solutions to owners crying poor? Potentially a salary floor for all teams, or a fluid salary minimum for teams that have made the playoffs the year before?

So Boras is clearly the GOAT when it comes to achieving his primary objective as an agent: getting his clients the most favorable contracts possible. However, he’s recently started a habit of more or less lying about how healthy his clients are (at least when it comes to public-facing comments, obviously we don’t see inside real negotiations). Whether it’s Kumar Rocker (perfectly clean medicals with no red flags -> actually needs a shoulder surgery that took several ticks off his fastball and a good share of his sauce), Michael Conforto (perfectly ready to get a long-term deal -> actually could use some significant shoulder surgery), or now Correa (no idea what the Giants could be worried about -> they’re getting unreasonably worked up over a very old injury that hasn’t bothered him in years -> actually that injury was re-aggravated just last season) this certainly seems to be his habit. Is having the game’s premier agent being this brazen about his obfuscations a real risk to the game going forward? It seems at least a little concerning that the disclosure of medical information card is getting played in this way considering that the player’s camp has much more leeway than FOs do to comment on medical issues in the press. Would love to get your thoughts.

With Bonds and Clemens doing so poorly on the committee HoF vote (<4 votes each), can we safely say they're done at this point? And on the subject of the HoF, as someone who cares about the voting as much as you do, have you ever made the trip to Cooperstown? If not, do you plan to?

Since Shohei Ohtani has re-popularised the concept of two way players, what new breakthrough do you think will happen/what would you want to happen? I love the idea of an ambidextrous pitcher who is a both a starter and reliever, so for example a righty starter and a lefty closer or vice versa. If this hypothetical player existed, how valuable do you think they would be if they were a 135 ERA+ starter (throwing at least 175 innings) and a 175 ERA+ closer (throwing at least 60 innings)?

My pet theory is that teams (and people in general) undervalue park factor. Everyone seems to be able to understand that a hitter's raw numbers get inflated by Coors, but stop short of realizing the same about other hitter-friendly parks like Great American and Fenway. This could help explain why guys like Castellanos, Winker, and Christian Vazquez struggled so much with new teams last year. I guess my question is, how concerned should the Padres be that Xander Bogaerts' career road OPS is .758?

Brady

Are you ENRAGED and FLABBERGASTED at the Baltimore Orioles as I am? It was bad enough that they sold at the deadline, but if now wasn't the time to sign a Good Player this offseason, when is?

Daniel Kohl

Is it over, so over, never been more over than it is right now for the white sox? Or are they some positive regression + Luis Robert superstar season away from making some noise again

preston hansen

Hi Bailey, Happy new year! Curious to hear your thoughts on the Mets offseason. As a Mets fan I’m obviously thrilled, but I feel as though this is undeniably good for baseball. It seems like every contract given out by Cohen has been very fair market value. Do you think this kind of spending is sustainable in the long term and do you see the owners taking any more action to prevent this level of spending?

Sam Horton

If Byron Buxton wasn’t made out of glass, would he have already won an MVP award? Will he ever be healthy enough for a top 3 MVP finish?

Have you ever listened to the Dollop podcast on Rube Waddell? (Episode 12 for those who are interested) Any thoughts on the Rube as a whacky guy?

Keegan Tatum

I’m interested in the next generation of baseball players but don’t know how to watch minor league ball and keep track of prospects as so many teams have very good and very bad potential. Any tips to get started?

Benjamin Nichols

Did Lance Berkman deserve to be given the first ballot HOF scrub in 2019? His main problem was having bad defensive stats as an outfielder for the first half of his career, but he had a career positive DRS as a first baseman for the second half. I'm not saying he deserves to be in the Hall, but I do think he should be a guy who regularly gets 20 to 30 percent of the vote till he's off the ballot.

What are some aspects of baseball (general trends, stats, business side) that you don’t think get enough coverage compared to how important/interesting they are?

Liam Delehanty

what do you think are the biggest flaws with the defensive spectrum? conceptually I understand that a third baseman is going to have more opportunities to make exceptional plays, but on a gut level it's still hard for me to see how a masterful 14 OAA season from Christian Walker could grade out to negative defense on FanGraphs after a few DH games. even if you take those out, Eugenio Suarez's glove was still technically more than twice as valuable across 20 less games of below average play at third. makes you wonder how many OAA '07 Pujols would have racked up. if they really have to account for how much easier it is to replace someone at the cold corner, couldn't they simply move the zero point to where Mark Teixiera doesn't have negative lifetime dWAR? it just hurts my feelings. also, who has the sassiest Baseball Reference photo?

Luke Nicholson

On Foolish Bailey this year, do you plan to bring back any of your one time videos that could be a series, like Referencing Baseball? Or do more hot take videos?

Mitchell Israel

It's no secret that Boston have had a rough off-season. Everything I read says the same thing: nobody has any idea what the front office are doing. I need a Bailey verdict: is Bloom over his head; making bad decision after bad decision or is he a secret genius who will be celebrating in November?

Seán Troy

Is there an amount of good play that makes you cast aside or devalue poor expected data for future seasons? For example, say someone has a few 6+ oWAR seasons in a row but their savant and/or expected numbers aren’t great.

Gaermph

What’s your least bold prediction for 2023?

Chris Collum

Have you been following vertical bat angle/swing path data? To me, it seems like something that could take off once made public on websites like savant.

Jackson Ingram

When analyzing a player, what is the best way to gauge if they will sustain success in the future, bounce back, etc? Also, what did you get during this holiday season?

Max Greineder

What aspect of the game of baseball do you think it's worst measured by current stats?
