I'm currently studying for my alevels so i do NOT claim fully indulging this and understanding it to the level i must do in the future because oh my goodness the depth and complexity of this book!! but i'm not saying it didn't touch my soul like every word morrison lays down on paper does. she is so utterly creative and her works just feel like a sweet breath of wisdom but also so much pain and human suffering. sula feels like a disconcerted hot summer fever dream in the best way possible, it is hot and sweaty and uncomfortable but you can't help but relish in its ingenuity. Ima leave it on the last pages quote because it actually makes me tear up ahaha SPOILER " ' all that time, all that time, i thought i was missing jude.' and the loss pressed down on her chest and came up into her throat. "we was girls together" she said as though explaining something. "o lord sula" she cried "girl, girl. girlgirlgirl" It was a fine cry- loud and long- but it had no bottom and it had no top, just circles and circles of sorrow." devestating. (excuse my horrific punctuation i am so lazy i don't want to use the shift button on my keyboard soz)

2024-05-07 00:05:24 +0000 UTCItβs endlessly frustrating that Toni Morrisonβs books are on βthe banned listβ the conclusions in her books which undoubtedly make people uncomfortable, deal with topics that white people are uncomfortable with, and for that her books sadly remain on the hypocritical censored βbanned list β At least in book clubs we can appreciate her work for what it is.
