This book peaked in the first chapter, and then it was a long road down hill after that. Jade is such a strange character, and part of me wants to like her dialogue, but the other part of me hated trying to make it through all of her nonsensical rabbit trails. For the first 300 pages I felt pretty lost with only tiny glimpses of a light at the end of the tunnel. Itβs a slow build, sure, but in my opinion, not a very good one. The ending massacre was pretty crazy though! And the way she kills her father and gets back at him for all those years of trauma was very satisfying. The Final Chapter, however, was back to Jadeβs ramblings and nothing actually felt finalized. The symbolism with the bears was interesting though. If anything, the reader finally starts to grasp what Jade had been longing for this whole timeβnot a slasher cycle, but a mother who would have protected her from the father who ruined her life.
