Sacrificed Sons (Dream Theater) Reaction, Analysis, & 9/11 Commemoration | The Daily Doug (Ep. 455)

#dreamtheater #sacrificedsons #september11

In this episode of #thedailydoug, I'm listening to Sacrificed Sons by Dream Theater. This song centers on the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 in New York City. For this video, I'm making use of the live concert version of this from their Score DVD, filmed in 2006. This is heavy material, and there are a few news clips included from that fateful day. Thank you for watching.

Still over here waiting for In The Presence of Enemies Pt1&2. Youve done all Dream Theaters long format songs except this one.... and IMO its one of their best.

I feel like there were other things trending that way, but in a sense I think the terrorists were successful. Politics became about emotion, about reaction, about self pity. It led the country down a path where the president manufactured cause to go to war with a country not related to the the attack, just to complete the unfinished business of his father. This attack marks a fundamental shift in the outlook of the United States, from super power to victim, and politicians have used that victimhood to promote fascism. If you feel this is too political, Doug, feel free to delete this comment. But this has been something wandering in my head for years and for some reason this review bubbled it up to the surface. That said, I am not at all familiar with Dream Theater but this performance stokes my interest.

Thank you Doug. We were holidaying with friends, sitting on a beach and I was listening to the radio on a small FM portable when the news broke here in the UK. My friend is from the US and her brother worked in the WTO. So far from home, you can imagine how distruaght she was and of course, no mobiles then. It turned out, that her brother's alarm hadn't gone off and he was late getting up that morning so escaped the carnage.

I'm thankful you've made so much time for this band. Myself, I was in an AfterSchool Daycare when the news broke in Scotland. I remember looking at the TV up in the corner of the room, not really sure what I was seeing, but concerned. The good folk looking after us were just the same, shook & quiet. It's fair to say that we all were affected that day.
