MUSE: Absolution | Extended Play Lounge Ep. 78

I'm very happy that I decided to heed the voting of our very close second place finisher in the previous poll. Absolution, the third album from Muse, really knocked my socks off. I was quite impressed with the harmonic language of Matthew Bellamy. The songs and performances all flowed quite nicely from one to another. I hope you enjoy!

I got a pop up on MySpace one day that let you listen to this album (this was WAY before streaming was a thing, folks, this was a flash application) and I think by time I was half way through Time Is Running Out, I shut it off and drove to Best Buy and bought it. No idea who they were, but I was hooked instantly. I drove straight to a friend's house, not home, opened it and said "Put this on, it's like heavy Elton John"

I am a huge Muse fan, and so glad you have done this reaction. Their style has evolved a great deal over the years, especially the albums after this one. But Doug... Muse are very much a band to be enjoyed live. They have won countless 'best live act' awards and I myself have seen them 5 times. They are truly breathtaking! The song on this album 'Stockholm Syndrome' is incredible live, and a favourite live track of Muse fans. Also Butterflies and Hurricanes is brilliant live, seeing Matt going from great piano work guitar to that fantastic piano piece halfway through the track. I really hope you continue reacting to Muse and check them out live to really appreciate their talent. Thanks Doug!!

I had trouble getting into this listen, specifically the lead vocals. It definitely grew on me to the point where I will probably listen to the album again. The comparison to Radiohead, however, reminded me why I am ambivalent about Radiohead, specifically the vocals.

UNRESOLVED 👅CLASSIC!

The Nanny named Fran

I have a difficult time wrapping my head around this album being twenty one years old.

Robert Thornton

Missed that one!!

Going to watch this today! 2nd Law is another Muse favorite of mine.

Looking forward to seeing this one a lot! Wait until you listen to The Globalist, Doug. That will knock more than your socks off 😆👌

Did you notice London's (ruined) skyline at the end of the Sing for Absolution video? A journey to a holocaust-ruined earth.

I love this album so much. Not having listened to it in its fullest in some time, this really got me back in to the mood to revisit it more in the future. Love the video! (Ps pretty sure there is actually another song at the end of the album called 'Fury', which is also phenomenal)
