Hi Mark! A Marillion Weekend in Montreal sounds amazing! Thank you for subscribing, glad you’re here! Let me know if you have any questions.

2024-10-30 09:48:55 +0000 UTCI would do unspeakable things to see Doug react to some Caravan/Canterbury scene music…

2024-10-29 02:01:56 +0000 UTCI SO want to hear Doug's view on "Hamburger Concerto!" Perhaps my favourite Focus piece. And "Mind Drive" is great - I loved this on the 35th Anniversary tour - perhaps the best concert I have attended.
Adrian Goodrich
2024-10-28 22:37:19 +0000 UTCLoads of love from Marillion from me! And Steve is SO one of my very favourite prog guitarists. But I am a funny one...my favourite album is the transition one "Season's End". I SO wish Doug would react to this bloody brilliant album!

2024-10-28 22:32:46 +0000 UTCHey, I’m a relatively recent subscriber, too. Joined in part to figure out how to recommend to Doug the upcoming Marillion Weekend in Montreal. Grendel - yes, the Genesis influence is very obvious. In fact, in their early days Marillion were dismissed by critics as a Genesis rip-off band, although they developed their own ever changing style in no time.

2024-10-27 19:24:09 +0000 UTCHi John! Glad you’re here! Let me know if you have any questions.

2024-10-26 19:21:23 +0000 UTCHi everyone. First time post, new subscriber. Is there any love here for Marillion? I was listening to 'Grendel' a few days ago - something I'd not heard for 30-some years - and it struck me how similar the closing section is to 'Apocalypse In 9/8' from 'Supper's Ready'. I can't be the only one, surely...?

2024-10-26 19:20:07 +0000 UTCI'm with you 100%, it got my vote.

2024-10-26 02:19:10 +0000 UTCNeed some more love for The Magician’s Birthday 🎉

2024-10-25 20:39:21 +0000 UTCThis live version of "Supper's Ready" is from the Peter Gabriel-era. The Socond's Out version was featured last year on YouTube, episode 618.

2024-10-25 16:19:04 +0000 UTCYeah, I should have thought that through before commenting- it's a wonder there's ONLY two Yes tracks!
Tom (the soggy one)
2024-10-25 16:17:44 +0000 UTC“Counties and Countries” by Jon Anderson and The Band Geeks, surprisingly didn’t make it to this vote. Then again, it’s from Jon’s brand new album (True) released this year. I’m confident it will prevail later 👍🏻😁 With that song out of the picture, my vote was destined for one of my all time favourite epic songs; “Supper’s Ready”. It’s the live version, hopefully from Live in Paris 1977 (Second’s Out). 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

2024-10-25 13:58:07 +0000 UTCIt’s great that these polls spark so much debate 🙂

2024-10-25 12:33:25 +0000 UTCThis is an early version with Peter

2024-10-25 12:28:38 +0000 UTC10cc deserves more votes. Great track from a very talented and unique band👌

2024-10-25 12:28:12 +0000 UTCThe Autobahn: We're fond-fond-fond of it.
Ray Sincere
2024-10-25 08:53:17 +0000 UTCI agree would like to see them get more recoginition
Fred Westfall
2024-10-25 05:21:42 +0000 UTCAs much as I love Genesis and "Supper's Ready", we've heard it before. Can we give other artists a chance for a change?
Bill Coonley
2024-10-25 01:27:20 +0000 UTCToo bad the Caravan song isn't well known and won't make it. It's an amazing song.
Jean-Michel LaFontaine
2024-10-24 23:16:04 +0000 UTCOh well, not to worry! Yes, Matthew is my name, but is also part of the title. I can see where it might be confusing! lol
Matt B
2024-10-24 20:12:27 +0000 UTCDarn! Now that the voting is live, it won't let me edit the options. I thought that was your name!
R. Douglas Helvering
2024-10-24 19:58:46 +0000 UTCYeah, Beyond These Shores is an amazing album of theirs, although their first two are still the best for me! Iona are definitely underrated!
Matt B
2024-10-24 19:55:50 +0000 UTCGood to see Iona "Matthew - The Man" in the mix here! @Doug, you need to correct the title to what i've just said ;-) Iona were a fantastic and unique Celtic-Progressive Rock group who were around for almost 30 years, and have contributed very well to the Prog scene in the 90s and beyond! Hopefully it will get some more votes! I know it's not as well known as the others on the list but please, everyone, give it a listen and compare it to the other bigger names in the list. You may be surprised! I know votes come from what people know and like, but it would be great to see an underdog, which is lesser known get through for a reaction
Matt B
2024-10-24 19:51:56 +0000 UTCSeconded. I submitted it once, ages ago, but it didn't get legs. I think it's a fascinating piece.
Darrin Snider
2024-10-24 19:21:04 +0000 UTCFocus and 10cc are definitely my top two🙂
Ruth James
2024-10-24 18:21:10 +0000 UTCOmmadawn, yes please :) This is perhaps the only format the song will fit into.
Mats Lange
2024-10-24 17:42:49 +0000 UTCInteresting how the Discord vote had Kraftwerk in second place and they're fifth here. :)
Robert Thornton
2024-10-24 17:36:32 +0000 UTCYeah, 'For Girls who Grow Plump....' is an excellent album. I just think Caravan sort of lost their way a bit and were at their best in the psychedelic era.
Guitar Channel
2024-10-24 17:23:57 +0000 UTCHope it gets some votes!!!
Chris Gadsby
2024-10-24 17:18:34 +0000 UTCThanks for the info.

2024-10-24 17:18:20 +0000 UTCOh, I see now. Thanks for the info.
Guitar Channel
2024-10-24 17:17:13 +0000 UTCThe caravan track is also often referred to as L'Auberge du Sanglier off For Girls who grow plump in the Night. The personnel were Pye Hastings and Richard Coughlan, Geoff Richardson on viola and David Sinclair on keys. Richard Sinclair had left before this album and been replaced by John Perry on bass.

2024-10-24 17:16:56 +0000 UTCOkay, so this is that YouTube video of Supper's Ready (live)? Genesis typically play their stuff live as studio version replications anyway, to my ears. (Unless they medley and splice sections of multiple songs, which I never cared for.) Of course, listening to Phil sing Peter's vocals is different.
Guitar Channel
2024-10-24 17:13:32 +0000 UTCThis isn’t that
Pam Norris
2024-10-24 17:04:15 +0000 UTCI heard the live version from Seconds Out
R. Douglas Helvering
2024-10-24 16:59:24 +0000 UTCI thought there was already a live version of Supper's Ready video? Anyway, plenty of other great songs here. Good to see 10cc, which eventually spun-off Godley-Creme as an innovative duo. Not sure if this Caravan is post David & Richard Sinclair? (For Canterbury prog, Hatfield and the North is probably stronger, especially than later Caravan.) RTF's 'Romantic Warrior' album is represented and so is Oldfield, perhaps my favorite of his. Focus still had Jan Akkerman on this album before going more fusion with Philip Catherine.
Guitar Channel
2024-10-24 16:53:00 +0000 UTCI'll see how the voting goes. ;)
R. Douglas Helvering
2024-10-24 16:41:49 +0000 UTCThank you so much for including Iona, one of the great underrated Celtic-Rock-Progressive-Faith/Inspiration-Jazz bands ever! Would love to see an Extended Play on "Beyond These Shores" or "Journey Into the Morn" someday soon. Spectacular music!
Charles A Herndon
2024-10-24 16:40:20 +0000 UTCIt succeeds much better than the trance version that I was listening to earlier.
George Davis-Stewart
2024-10-24 16:37:48 +0000 UTCThe Kansas and Caravan selections are top-notch! Also hoping for one of the Yes tunes and the essential O.G. epic of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida. Heep always needs more love as well!
Matthew Hackbert
2024-10-24 16:05:41 +0000 UTCYes! Incantations is his masterwork
Si
2024-10-24 16:05:17 +0000 UTCAbsolutley! Incantations especially comes to mind
Jesse L. Purdom
2024-10-24 15:58:39 +0000 UTCAll his other epics are also worthy of analysis - Hergest Ridge, Incantations, Amarok, TB2 and Songs of Distant Earth in particular.
Lars
2024-10-24 15:52:16 +0000 UTCJust so everyone knows the Suppers Ready is from 1972 or 1973 with Peter Gabriel. The video isn’t clear on the date but has lots of good costume changes and theatrics.
Pam Norris
2024-10-24 15:46:30 +0000 UTCI understand two Yes tracks made the final vote- will you allow two Yes tracks in the video?
Tom (the soggy one)
2024-10-24 15:45:45 +0000 UTCDr. Doug has heard various versions of Echoes performed by Pink Floyd. The performance of the track on nothing but two acoustic guitars, I believe, is astonishing. Especially the middle part where any melody disappears. Give it a listen if you’re unfamiliar with it before voting.
Illume Eltanin
2024-10-24 15:30:18 +0000 UTCI rejoice at any mention of 10cc. Always worth a listen.
Daniel Travers
2024-10-24 15:28:49 +0000 UTCOmmadawn (and Return to Ommadawn) is peak Oldfield for me. Perfectly distilled into everything that makes his music great.
Blinky
2024-10-24 15:01:45 +0000 UTCOh well, even going mainstream for once I still didn't get into the shoot-out :(
Trevor Cotterell
2024-10-24 14:58:49 +0000 UTCThere is a criminally low amount of Mike Oldfield on the channel. It is time for Ommadawn!
Si
2024-10-24 14:55:11 +0000 UTCI would love to hear you're thoughts on Ommadawn! An absolute favorite of mine 🙂
