Richard Wright: Wet Dream | Extended Play Lounge Ep. 80

This is a special EPL episode. As I will explain in the video, this is the last album that I received from our friend Thom before he passed. It's the first solo album from his favorite musician in his favorite band. And, after a year, I'm finally taking off the plastic wrapping and listening to Wet Dream by Richard Wright. I thoroughly enjoyed the album, and I hope you enjoy as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this EPL - and I’m so glad that you got to a point where you could crack it open and listen. I didn’t know Thom, but if he sent this to you, he must have wanted you to enjoy it, not keep it sealed in amber to make you sad at the sight of it. It’s time to listen with joy! Bless you for sharing this very special experience with us. 💝

I've noticed the Pink Floyd songs you seem to enjoy the most, and find most interesting, are the ones where Rick Wright wrote the music. Would love if you had a "Rick Wright special" episode where you go deeper into Pink Floyd's discography and listen to some of Rick's music. I can also recommend his Broken China album.

This is a beautiful album, and I am so glad that you've covered this, Doug. Now I all I need is a quiet evening to go and watch your video.

Yeah. I should have mentioned Obscured by Clouds too. In fact, ObC is probably a better example/suggestion.

If you listen to Pink Floyd's "Obscured By Clouds" LP, there are a lot of similarities in some of those songs with these. I wonder if some of the elements that Richard Wright used were leftover ideas from previous albums?

"Broken China" is definitely worth an EPL, as it deals with his ex-wife's depression, and includes two beautiful vocal performances by Sinead O'Connor. For more of Mel Collins' sax work, Camel's "Rain Dances" is another great set. Thank You, Doug and Thom!

Bill Coonley

If you want more chord progression magic from Richard, listen to Pink Floyd's "More".

SteveT

It is interesting that most of the solos are not from Richard, but rather are from the sax or guitar. Richard clearly does not feel the need to be out front when presenting his music. Maybe this is a result of being around strong personalities like Syd, Roger, and David, or maybe it is just his natural inclination.

Mark L

I wonder if Richard could have use these songs for a future Pink Floyd album? Probably not. This is so cool music.

Just ordered the CD. Would have bought the vinyl, but I need to get a decent turntable - over 300 vinyl albums from the 70s and 80s up in the eaves!

Boy, what a fantastic album!!! No bad song on it! I never realised it existed, before this episode. Wow! It sounds like a more soulful Gilmour. And I see you said what I said, about him being the soul of PF. LOVED Funky Deux!! But it shows just how MUCH he contributed to PF. Waters wanting all the credit for everything. I SO wish Rick and Gilmour could have worked and recorded more together. Need to add this great album to my collection - thanks once again, Doug. And thanks Thom, wherever you are now buddy. LOVED this! And how about Mel Collins on the sax? His discography is just amazing!!! I suggested Camel's "Lunar Sea" for the latest Fans' Favourites, and Mel is central on that recording. Must be THE best rock saxophonist?

Never (yet) heard this album. Great opportunity to remedy that - and to hear more from Rick, who I always felt was the real soul behind PF. Off we go...

Thanks so much for listening to this awesome record. It was great to see your reaction and hear your thoughts. 👍

You realize how important Richard was to the Pink Floyd writing and sound (not to take away from Wet Dream). Love this album and it's a mood.
