POLL: Pick the Extended Play Lounge

Hi y'all! It's time to pick the next Extended Play Lounge episode. I've pulled five classic albums from the 1970s from our Master List, and I need help choosing the one to listen to first!

I've heard portions of all of these albums, but none of them in their entirety! Vote for your favorite!

Comments

I'm just going with the one that got the most votes. We'll get to the others in time, I'm sure!

R. Douglas Helvering

Doesn't feel fair to me for a band to win this vote by plurality with less than 1/3 of the vote.

D

Same here!

Mark J Moerman

….better than you could know! …..show you how the garden grows !

Ricardo Hector Jimenez Valdes

Thanks Allen- job done!

Adie

I think he did an orchestral version of fools overture with Roger Hodgson. For anyone on discord Even in the Quietest Moments title track is up for voting..

Chris Gadsby

I'm also voting for Tull. You can change your vote (try it!); it's not set in stone if you see a trend happening. . .

Allen

Am definitely a Rushaholic, but can agree that Aja is an absolute masterpiece! Wouldn't mind ELO winning either.

Laura Fancy

"Take a look at my girlfriend, she's the only one I got...

Robert Thornton

I went for the loser, ELO! I was pondering Jethro Tull (despite it being a little unseasonal), but as it is a lighter album of theirs I thought there was more to consider in Eldorado. When the reveal showed Rush in the lead I thought I should have added my support for JT, but, in the end, I'll be happy with any of these albums.

Adie

SO hard to choose this time! One of the very best Tull albums - and had it been TAAB or Aqualung, then no contest. Indeed, from time to time SFTW rises to be my favourite Tull album. And Aja is just brilliant. Breakfast in America always reminds me of a less-good time in my life, so - unfairly, perhaps - I prefer their previous three albums. And I love ELO, but just not as much as the other four bands. In the end, I plumped for the first Rush album I ever bought, back in the mid-70s and still my favourite. But I could have picked any of these.

Adrian Goodrich

I was always more of a Jethro Tull fan than a Rush fan

BRIAN MILLER

ELO on 8%? Supertramp 15%? Well, I'll have to vote for Jethro Tull because, all due respect to Rush, I can't take an hour of Geddy's vocals.

Guitar Channel

Saw Tull recently during their 7 decades tour. Played a load of earlier stuff and not a great deal of SFTW. Still found it a bit strange that only Ian Anderson was part of the original band on show. Really expected a bit more of Aqualung.

John Baird

Yes, I voted the same way for the same reason. I love every single one of these albums though. I hope they all get an EPL.

Pam Norris

Looks like a race in three. My vote is for JT, songs From the Wood. Brilliant album

Alex Libia

It’s got to be Supertramp for me. As much as I love Rush, “Breakfast In America” is an excellent album, “Child Of Vision” is just sublime.

Phil Sparkes

ditto - Aja for the win, but need to pull ahead of the rushaholics...

Great Scott

Aja is just a Masterpiece. Not a bad track. Y’all know I love me some Rush, but some of it has been covered already. From what I can see, only Aja’s title track is on YT. That tips the balance for me - but it’s tough!!

Margaret Barnes

I've been waiting a long time to get a thorough Doug analysis of Songs From The Wood, one of my top 5 JT albums

Claudio Fernandes

Yeah we do! We should talk sometime.

Greg in east TN

These are all stellar albums (although I'm not into Steely Dan). I voted for Eldorado even though I know it's by far the longest longshot. Every one of these needs to be an EPL!! My second choice would be Supertramp and third, Rush. Honestly the Rush album is utterly awesome but we've heard a TON of Rush and very little by Supertramp or ELO...

Neale Brassell

I saw you also mentioned ST’s Even in the Quietest Moments. I’ll put that upside Crime any day. Song to song, it’s fantastic. Like minds evidently bro!

David Kingma

Me too for Aja!

Pam Norris

I have and love all of these. Everyone of them deserves an EPL.

Pam Norris

I’ve been hoping for eldorado for so long on this channel. Hands down one of the best ELO albums! If I were to choose a second, it’d be a farewell to kings.

Matt Mickle

Doug did an EPL of Crime of the Century early on and I believe there's a Daily Doug of a live version of Fool's Overture!

Matthew Hackbert

Doug, if only we could cast 2 votes. Breakfast in America and Aja are 2 of my favorites of the 'yacht rock' era although Supertramp are PROG in my eyes

Frankie Cerniglia

I didn’t vote: any choice will be fine

Frits van Voorst

Bloody Well Right (Crime of the Century) is the signature Supertramp song. But I think they're best album is Even In The Quietest Moments. There's some "hits" on it, but I love Fool's Overture. It's deep and profound.

Greg in east TN

I’ve been pushing for that album for over a year!!!

David Kingma

That’s me too. Rush is probably my fav band of all time but Aja is a 10/10 record.

Gary Thobaben

To me, start to finish, there’s not a bad song on that Tull album. I played the hell outta that thing back in the day. Songs From the Wood all day.

David Kingma

Tough choices! I went with the Tull because it's a very special album to me. But I'll be happy no matter which one wins!

Bill Brinkmoeller

Would like to hear songs from the wood, but gone for Supertramp as they have not featured much on the channel in comparison. Fingers crossed for them 🤞

Chris Gadsby

seeing breakfast in america rank so low :(

Bubbalino

I didn't even see the other choices I just hit Songs From The Wood instantly ! I love the other choices too but no contest . I just want to see you react to the opening track vocals !

Duff

Songs from the Wood is a personal favorite album of mine. Can't go wrong with progressive folk rock.

Eeko

I am going to be totally honest....Any of these would be great for a deeper dive! I own almost all of these records and Supertramp's 'Breakfast in America' is an underrated album. Electric Light Orchestra's "Eldorado" is a classic album at that! Jethro Tull is always a fascinating listen, just because of the way they produce their music and the singing style of their lead singer. Steely Dan's "Aja" is my favorite album by them and I believe was one of my first submissions! Rush never gets old either, I am all for rockn' along with Rush any day of the week, for "The World is...The World is..."...lol

Rebecca Walsh

Tull's Songs From the Wood is a masterpiece!

David Granger

Oh there's a surprise - Rush are winning. Songs From the Wood may not be their best album but some Tull would make a nice change!

Trevor Cotterell

Why do we never see Little Feat? Waiting For Columbus is a Top-5 live album for sure! Feat at their peak!

Greg in east TN

Supertramp go go go!😁

Karl Stubsjoen

Love Rush, that's not one of their best - pulling for Aja here. Would be a much more interesting listen for Doug, I think
