The American Urban/Rural Political Divide

Edit: I had a small error in the other video so I corrected it and re-uploaded. Thanks for catching that, Dante!

Here is a video suggested by many viewers, including some of you. One thing I didn't mention in the video is tribalism, but I felt like many of my viewers would already be keenly aware of that causing this divide.

Thank you for your continued support!

I am actually already planning a full video about Clinton, so maybe I can include that in it?

Mr. Beat

The tug of war between Bill Clinton and the Republicans on how best to reform welfare would be interesting as well.

Jonny Hubbs

Right on 🙂

Mr. Beat

Actually yes! Make a video on if welfare improves poverty with like a counter argument from the Republican side 😊

Deshawn Jackson

Fair enough. But I liked Lawrence way more than Manhattan.

Kasonia Kisangani

Here it is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVqbZGtGbuk And Manhattan and Lawrence are not technically suburbs, as crazy as that sounds. We're urban areas!

Mr. Beat

Mr. Beat, where can we find your suburb song? And why can't you stand the suburbs? I can't stand the suburbs either. Ever since I left Manhattan, KS to go to KU I told myself I would never ever live in Manhattan again. At the time I didn't understand why, but today I know better why.

Kasonia Kisangani

I saw Tribalism in your write-up. Not sure if that would fit in this video anyway. As far as the divide between rural and urban I would dare say in some respect we know who largely represents whom. The Democrats have more power in urban areas while Republicans have more power in rural areas. I would dare say just as Democrats seemed to have let the rural areas go, Republicans have left urban areas alone. Though at least Democrats would try to make inroads in those areas where they lack strength.

Shedd Badgers

You're right!

Mr. Beat

you forgot the rual culture of self dependence being a factor. People in rual area dont care much for charity for themselves and much less from the government so when taken it is done son begrudgingly.

Devin Canada

i want to hear the whole "i hate the suberbs song."

Devin Canada

No worries man... Looking forward to the polling when this post goes Live on YouTube. I kinda already know what to expect (I think).

DANTE VERONA

I sure did. Dang, I messed that part up. I'll put a correction in the pinned comment. Thanks for catching it and pointing it out.

Mr. Beat

Hold on... At the 4 min mark did you mean to say more resistant to change instead of less resistant?

DANTE VERONA

Yeah it's surprising how rural voters have turned against big public projects in recent years since they often depend on them for their survival.

Mr. Beat

Dang that is an amazing idea. AND you brought up good points I'm kicking myself for not bringing up in the video!

Mr. Beat

Great video topic! I enjoyed your analysis on the urban and rural divide. Automation and globalization has certainly widened the divide between urban and rural areas. Also, the fact that both parties in my opinion seem to have adopted this purity test where candidates and members of a party can’t hold varying stances on certain issues otherwise they are demonized e.g. Joe Manchin bucking Biden’s agenda or Trump and republicans who attack republicans who voted to certify the 2020 election. I think a good place to start to help alleviate the divide is to have an urban/ rural high school exchange student program in each state, so people can experience both walks of life and provide some perspective on both.

Naterade

Great video as always! I’ve only ever really lived in big cities so I’m not particularly knowledgeable on the policies of rural areas, or heck, even the suburbs. On urban/rural arguments, I tend to side with the left on most of these issues (for example better public transports as opposed to more highways)
