How the Australian Media Plays You

It's not the presenters that are in on the overall structure of manufacturing consent. People are arranged in a way to create a cohesive and weak structure of flashy issues, people are incentivized to create flashy programming and that leads to a poor representation of the available arguments and facts. Division and conflict are inherently magnetic to human attention spans. This is easily exploited by someone like daddy Murdoch, who owns media appealing to both sides of the politcal demographic, old and conservative (the australian, the telegraph, SKY news) and young and progressive (Vice, SBS viceland). Its easy to create conflict, when you know where to look, social issues, things that happen to peope you can see, like gay marriage, like refugees. NOT things that are important but hard to communicate like climate change and worker's rights.

This week on the ABC morning news show Tanya Plibersek said if Labor get in they would go after the Coalitions' cronyism. This and a national corruption watchdog are badly needed.

I know you've touched on the "Labor and Liberal parties are exactly the same guys :3c" fallacy before but this was a great, neat, well-researched little summary that I can spam my social circles with prior to the election. Also a much needed palate cleanser after the last video.

Well it’s just a fact that majority of corporate media is owned by big liberal party donors. The current labor has on many occasions said they will keep the no boat policy and crack down on working visas and protect immigration from privatisation yet the media and the liberals have kept the dialogue away from all of that and focused on humanitarian refugees instead vilifying them and throwing all our issues on them and not the liberal’s horrible mismanagement of the economy. At the end of the day my generation doesn’t give a fuck about any of that all they care about is the dumb culture war that is amplified by the media to creat a wedge in working class voters.
