It seems kind of pointless to me as the turbines don't stop spinning in that hour and our only means of making an impact would be collectively to consume 1000-3000 Megawatt hours less than we do currently and actually keep it that way. I am using those number specifically as I believe they are the output of a large or several large coal fired power stations. I am also implying that maybe one were to be shut in the unlikely event that our energy needs don't increase to fill any gap we might make. As an awareness campaign it seems little more than a fad to me and not even the kind that incidentally achieves anything. Green energy as a concept stands up by itself as a good thing to have. Even if not many usually think about whether an area gets enough average wind of direct sunlight to produce enough energy to be profitable or if those areas are close enough to population centers to make building and maintaining lines to those areas worthwhile. However what do you think about it? Assuming wind, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal and offshore wind power are not applicable would you support nuclear over coal or gas fired turbines? Given the previous answer, in future how would you regard potential fusion power solutions?

Jordan, How often do you think about the arctic losing all of it's sheet ice and releasing half of the worlds carbon (mostly CH4) over a time period of a decade or less, changing the worlds carbon sinks on both land and sea into carbon sources as the global average temperature skyrockets? For me it's most days, i watched a video interview recently of an old bloke from NCAR (see vid link below), who said that "20% of the rise in global average temperature over the last century took place in 2015". Which, on a graph would look like a hockey stick. Considering 4 degrees C above pre-industrial levels would make most of the planet uninhabitable, i do wonder how far away that might be. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEjM5yytgg0&feature=youtu.be" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEjM5yytgg0&feature=youtu.be</a> 2.
