Nuclear Power Sucks: Change My Mind

Love your work!

Hey team, really great work and Jordan, I had to become a patron and come and comment after this one. The points made, and the endurance of reformulating them for each person were so commendable - industry mouthpieces sound to me like theyre giving the billy madison puppy speech except they're Eric. But really, the real win for me was the FJ team managing to pull in an industry thinktank mouthpiece, and having them outed in the youtube comments. I don't know if Jordan remembers the aside he made in a pod not too long ago - how funny it would be to have the comedy show referenced in something academic...Well, I don't know about the show, but I've decided you're getting a citation in a polsci phd for that video, in the context of the new generation of industry astroturfing. My postgrad research is on unconventional gas in nsw, but more broadly the interaction of civil society, industry and government, part of which is on a longrunning industry propaganda campaign built on pseudoscience, denial and obviously lobbying connections. I decided to do a quick search of ATA in relation to a company I'm focused on, who've been on the forefront of climate denial and thinktank funded deregulation movements for decades, and lo and behold! they've worked together trying to smear the IPCC reports and counter the COP conferences. As such this video has given an interesting contemporary real world example of the younger/newer generation of ideological lobbyists (i.e. conservative propagandists), how denialist strategies/talking points are sourced from US thinktanks and replicated in the Australian case, an example of how corporate charities and lobbyists trace a consistent line of anti-pollution control tactics to at least the 70s and the US clean air act, and finally, the extent to which industry astroturfing is trying to infiltrate grassroots/independent media ....no offence, but isn't it a crazy world that when we take away a few shell companies, Jordan is already on the Koch brothers' radar for flak! What an omniscient kochtopus indeed. Anyway, there may be more points, but the main thing is that citation is happening one way or another even if its only for a half a page. Since any thesis won't be published for like 8 or 9 months, I'll try and make an excerpt of this and circulate it while this is still hot. No promises. In the meantime just take my money and my thanks.
