Hello Patrons,
We've got a nice, straightforward video for you this week: What if the Liberals won the last federal election? We take a look at what has been done in the last 3 years and how much worse it could have been if the Liberals got in.
There's a missing source near the end of the video that will be fixed up for the public release, alongside the dates for the new UFO live show.
The final touches are being put on our comeback video. It's a big one. We're expecting to put it out to the public Monday evening next week. We'll be doing a premiere and we'll be sure to give you a sneak preview if it's finished on time.
After that we'll be back to posting publicly on YouTube. We've got a lot of content banked to get out before the election, alongside a lot of new coverage that we'll be doing. There are big plans.

Mind you we did have the unfair start of hydro and the only non renewable power we get coming from the mainland as far as I am aware, so take that with a grain of salt

2025-02-21 09:40:09 +0000 UTCtl;dr The Greens started through activism against hydro power with the no dams campaign, never compromised, got a Labor government rolled, and in the end left Tasmania environmentally/economically far worse off. Tasmania has a mix of climate and topography in the west that makes it very well positioned to make use of hydropower. It rains so often in the west of Tasmania that pretty much no one lives there or has tried to develop it. Even in other areas it was such a viable option that the grid was built pretty much entirely off of hydro between 1900-1950. With excess power out the ass, large scale manufacturing was quite cheaper and attracted a lot of companies to the state. Those manufacturers would typically fight for contracts for new hydro developments, which made them even cheaper. All in all, Tasmania's economy was geared towards creating hydro dams and selling the power to manufacturers (and eventually wanting to sell power interstate). As always it's not like early Greens were even necessarily in the wrong, but their lack of foresight did the worst damage. The movement started because admittedly there were genuine concerns of environmental damage and archaeological artefacts being destroyed (the studies were commissioned by Labor). People didn't like a few of the development proposals in the 70's and started protesting them. Since all Hydro developments were publicly owned, whatever parliament was in control at the time was in charge of these proposals. Tas Labor tried to pivot towards a more environmentally/culturally friendly approach to creating the Franklin Dam, but it was blocked in the upper house. The protests eventually became quite loud and had a lot of attention, they didn't like the compromise idea. It caused a referendum, with the choice between the environmentally friendly-ier option or the more damaging option being given. Through some warped logic that has become their trademark, early Green's groups rationalised that people should just write "No Dams" on their ballots instead. With everyone environmentally conscious donkey voting, 35% of the votes were considered invalid and the more damaging original proposal won. The referendum would've been close regardless, but there was a campaign of completely shitting on hydro developments instead of picking the better option and it made the political landscape a lot more hostile. Labor became tethered to a development that was unpopular with their base, and after some factional conflicts they lost government months later. The campaign against hydro had so much momentum that after rolling the previous government and getting stuck with a new one which was far worse for their movement, they went on an all out anti-damming national campaign. Arguably it was big enough that it played a part in getting Bob Hawke into government, but it also made hydro power was too toxic of a topic for Labor aligned politicians. After some legal fighting between state Liberals and national Labor, eventually the construction was forced to be shutdown. With the way that the construction was shut down immediately, it completely destroyed the local economy geared towards making hydro. Manufacturers with the long term contracts you need to build 10-15 year projects were suddenly not needed, multi million dollar contracts that had already started work went down the drain along with most of Tasmania's manufacturing industry. All the unique talent for creating all that manufacturing infrastructure and the experts in hydro development were also lost. Meanwhile the Liberals pivoted Tasmania's economy towards logging and selling pulp, which hasn't really stopped since. Had the Greens not completely poisoned the idea of hydro power, Tasmania could have been in a position to sell a good portion of it's power to Victoria. Tasmania could've become a hub for green manufacturing, given the baseload renewable energy source. Instead of finding workable ways to improve the environment, they virtue signalled their political capital away and undoubtedly made Tasmania worse off environmentally. They carry this campaign around as a badge of honour on their logo, not seeing the irony in being proud of destroying the only viable renewable energy source between 1980-2010. The shutting down of the project (which only happened because of national Labor) on it's own didn't kill the industry, the political atmosphere the Greens fostered did. Nearly 100 years of hydro momentum, technical skills, and the infrastructure to make it possible were lost. We still run on hydro power here, but it's a shallow shell of what it should have been.

They literally founded their movement on destroying the only viable renewable energy source at the time. Tasmania didn't get near 100% renewable out of luck, it got it in spite of the Greens party and their predecessors essentially destroying the entire industry.

His assistant and I talk frequently and I attend door knocks and some volunteer work for them occasionally, but it’s not enough man. I want to do more than knock on strangers door and hand them a flyer. I am a member the Labor party. They run call services every Wednesday but my uni degree crosses over with it so I’m never free. Feels like the only way to actually reach people is to create a page on TikTok and instagram and whatnot and build a follow base to then inform others. It’s a shame that this is the only way people consume information nowadays and is the most effective, luckily I’m relatively good with editing and computers cause I’m an avid gamer and have a yt channel. Reckon it’s the best shot to start making content on to is stuff to reach wider audiences? Or do u reckon it’s best to just volunteer and help out my local MP

Not in the sense of “oh great, my non preferred party is in charge”, rather that I fear for my future in this country. Seeing all the lib voters online showing so much cognitive dissonance makes me so fucking concerned because these people are allowed to VOTE. If this is what my life is gonna look like in the future, I’d rather take a forever sleeping pill
